Old Hornby apt motor coach help

Post by majorbloodknock »

Hi.
I was wondering if any one could help me in solving a problem.
I bought a apt motor coach with everything except the actual ringfield motor.
Having found the service sheet online, it shows the motor to be a ringfield X 1387
Unit, but I have not yet found any one selling a old unit for that model.

Would any one know if the X1387 was fitted to any other train, for me to try and track down, or have
any ideas what else could be fitted to make the apt run.
The bogie frames are complete,so im stuck.

Would be grateful for any advice given.

Many thanks.
Steve.

Suggest this thread is moved to the Hornby section as it isn't really an electrical problem.

Now moved.

I am just guessing here but I am assuming that the wheelbase is similar to a few other locos such as the class 29 and the HST? If so, finding a budget donor loco should not be a problem.
Try phoning Peter's Spares. While they may not have any complete older motor bogies, you may find that they will be able to confirm if the motor bogie is the same as on other locos such as the HST, EMU (Class110), later 1980's Hymeks, class 29's etc. The 4 wheeled diesel bogies. (The 6 wheel bogie types will be too big). I never had an APT so I can't confirm what works with what, but I know the ordinary 4 wheel Ringfield types were the same for at least some of the diesels such as the ones mentioned above. The class 86 will also be the same (Not had an 86 but I know they are the same)... Ask Peter's Spares or Elaines Trains just on the off chance they have some for sale.

Hi.
Many thanks for your help Mountain and end 2 end.
The service sheets show varied components ,but not always the correct one.
I will give Peters spares a ring tomorrow and see if he can shed some light on it.
Even if he only has a ringfield block, I can the covert it .
However you both have helped me out.
All the best.
Steve.
