Introduction of the 10800 diesel prototype

Post by Bigmet »

Nearing the bottom of the barrel now! One of the more obscure prototype diesels, originating with the LMS, and began being tested under BR in 1952. Something a little different for the BR early crest period. Heljan have a very well proven mechanism design in their classes 15 and 16 which runs beautifully, so it will outperform the real thing which earned the soubriquet 'wonder engine'. As in 'wonder if it will work / appear today?'.

I would have thought the SR/BR Booster class 70 locos would have been a better choice, but I'm not complaining as this will complete my collection of prototype diesels.

It seems this relic of the lurch into dieselisation may be imminently appearing. The price has gone up somewhat...
