Hi
Not sure if anyone can help. I have a Hornby black 5 with a silver seal motor. Was dead when i got it but have finally got it going. It runs ok but the motor is very noisy. Got a couple of more things to try but thought about doing the cd conversion on it. However how it is at the moment it only has one wire to the motor, whereas the conversion has two wires. Just wondering if anyone knows where i should put the second wire?

If this is the original 'Silver seal' tender drive you might want to hold off on conversion: if it is is the original, it will drive on all three axles.
This motor was used under licence from Fleischmann by Hornby, and is of superior design and construction, compared to Hornby's 'cost down' efforts that followed. Now, that doesn't mean it cannot have been degraded due to careless use, but it may be worth looking at repair. What I don't know is whether there is anyone out there with the parts required...

I believe it is the original, the Hornby code R061 is what the box says. I have given the motor a service and got it running, it was very dirty. But forgot to clean the gears so is one thing i will do, and oil and grease things. Just need to double check what to grease and what to oil. Hopefully that makes it run quieter.Bigmet wrote:If this is the original 'Silver seal' tender drive you might want to hold off on conversion: if it is is the original, it will drive on all three axles.

I'd suggest having a look OOBill's Youtube videos - he might even have done a Black 5. A no nonsense approach to OO engine repair/maintenance.barney121e wrote: I believe it is the original, the Hornby code R061 is what the box says.
