But before that the making of the Spanish (actually Arab) roof tiles.

I love such tiles but there are no afordable commercialy available ones for 1/32 or 1/35 so for years I have been using self made plaster castings from a many years no more in production protoype from MK-35. Taht was the very best I had seen but still the lower edges of the roofs where massive and I wanted the visible arranging of the individual tiles to be seen.
I tried "Diorama Debris" silicone moulds and the very expensive special super hard terracotta colour plaster. The tiles were perfect but casting them was a lot of work and removing the 0,5mm plaster castings from the mould without damaging the tiles was ... (No Daniel, you are not allowed to use such words in this forum.)

So I started searching a way to make my own and after 15 years this project generated a great result where the guillotine plays an essential roll.

It is not difficult work but a bit boring if you don't have some good, tranquil background music. But I will use the same mnethod soon again.

Jump to the bridge scaffold:

I decided to let go the card 'iron' brackets and asked Tim Williams (the fellow responsible for the 009 slate layouts and more at the Bala Lake Railway: https://bala-lake-railway.co.uk/) to make for me a set of much smaller 3D printed ones that would look much better.
And he did:

If you look carefully you'll notice there are long strips of iron plate laying on the horizontal wood beams and following the ark shape. So I made some with thin card, paint and dry pastels:

Strips of 1mm thick balsa wood heavy weathered using diferent grades of sandpaper

ImageIMG_0203 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

They have all received a bath in China inkt diluted in water for the base dark gray -almost black- colour.

Some borads suffered more or less serious dammage as heavyly used scaffold boards would suffer:

ImageIMG_0204 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0205 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0206 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Dry pastels help a lot to give some more apprpopriate tone to the boards but the dark base works accentuating for the eyes the deoth of the 'old' wood grain:

I took care of not repeating again and again de same spots (variation is music for the eyes!)

ImageIMG_0002 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0004 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0005 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

and here and there I touched the board with some ocker pastels to suggest recently exposed wood:

As you see, the new limestone blocks for completing the repairs of the bridge have arrived:

They were cut from the same 'sculpture block' foam used for the two big pieces of the bridge:

I keep quoting this photo because is the only prototype image I've got but contain polenty of subtle information:

ImageP1190258 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

For example that a narrow gauge track was laid at the top for moving materials. So this diorama must have one too.

ImageIMG_0027 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Since it is not a railway diorama but a diorama where a portable railway is being used for the repairs of the bridge, it must have also portable track

ImageIMG_0028 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

and appropriate sup[port structure

ImageIMG_0002 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0003 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0004 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

That was going to go well with a little work and once some big and small details would be added it would look at least a bit convincing so I started to think about that and got some stuff for it:

ImageIMG_0043 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0040 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

But something was missing yet...

A small crane!!!

I started to search thinking I would build one :

ImageIMG_0033 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0001 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0032 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

but that made me face once more my eye's issues.
I thought may be I can still build a kit...

And found the very l9ight 3ton crane made by Miniart. I bought one.
I tried to build it but my eyes couldn't see half of what was needed and my built became a frustration.
Specially because the Miniart kit is really an absolute beauty...
So I abought another two of the same kit (the prince was a little less than 10 euro each) and asked John Vogelaar to build them for me. He built one, his doughter the other. They made two jewels of it and if I manage to find the photos I'll post them in next message later today.

This is the Miniart 3 Ton crane kit

https://miniart-models.com/new-photos-o ... =1&slide=8

It is made to go with a truck not for a railway but I decided building a simple small wagon fro the crane was something I wanted to try. So I did.

John gave me the kits painted with just a layer of black primer, as I asked and soon I managed to get the little beauty on track on a special built platform wagon:

Re: 1/32 Scale Diorama

Well, actually this thread will temporarilly stop here because since 12 July I didn't touch the diorama again. The reason?
Seeing that I was no more able to build a small kit terrified me making me aware of how fast had de state of my eyes worsened.
In panic, some people tend to hide or run away or simply give up. Well, that's not my nature so I decided it was time to seriously check my not nice but real new boundaries. So I started building the freelanced 'ROWAN' style steam railcar that had been waiting at the top of my to-do list for a couple of years.
May be it will get and own thread one day.
So far I like the build but also realize how limiting my eyes are working. Enlarged photos can be very cruel.
The good niews was that, finally, the specialists decided to solve the problems in both eyes with a laser intervention. That would happen on 1st Oktober.
Well, I went to the Hospital that day just to hear that de intervention was being delayed to 2021. (Blame Covid for it.) So I must wait and once the virus stops drowning the health service I will get my 'new eyes' and be able -I hope- to build a second but more acceptable version of the steamrailcar.

In the mean time if anyone -and specialy beginners- has any questions, comments, critics, doubts or whatever related to the diorama, please do and you'll be welcome.

Daniel

Here the still incomplete railcar:

That's a real shame Daniel - but it gives us something to look forward to.

Meanwhile, I am wondering, and you probably are too, why there has not been much response to your fascinating thread.

Now, I am not a "scenery man" (much more interested in prototype locos etc..) and rarely look at posts in the "Scenery" Section. (But I'm glad that I did this time.) It strikes me however that perhaps if you were to move the thread to "Personal Layouts - Construction" when you resume modelling, then I imagine you will get more exposure and interest - just a suggestion.

Thank you again, Ex-Pat.
Indeed, I was wondering if this forum would have just three or four members. So thank you for opening my eyes.
Great to know that we are not the last Mohicans.
I don't think I'll move this thread in order to catch some interest. Those few who are interested will some way smell or hear about and will show up.
But I am going to start a separate layout thread today.

Again, thank you for your attention, your advice and your inspiring modelling.
