Delivery is expected in Q3 2020 and our aim is to produce the model for less than £200 (subject to £ / USA $ exchange rates on delivery)

Rails have pictures of the second EP sample up. Looking properly elegant. Just don't be leaning over the keyboard if you make a visit, drool is not good for your device...

In whatever Chinese factory Dapol choose to utilise, and there's quite a choice; and as far as I know Dapol haven't named the operation(s) they work with. It won't be Wales, that's for sure!

I have the grand experience of one OO Dapol loco, recently purchased, and it is good. The design and construction is all based on well proven technique evolved over decades, since production of HO models for North America got established in Hong Kong over fifty years ago. There are detail differences in technique, but the concept is the same as what you may now purchase from Bachmann, Hattons, Heljan, Hornby, Kernow, Model Rail, NRM, Oxford, Rails, Realtrack, SLW, and yet others.

Now based in Shenzen, there is a well developed network of specialist suppliers making castings, motors, mouldings and machined parts for the mechanisms; and this supports the production of model railway items in numerous factories. Many of these offer 'turnkey' services from design layout and tooling through to delivered product, which is the explanation of the expansion in the number of UK businesses now offering RTR OO.

(A look at the packaging of Hornby product reveals any number of manufacturing outfits that they have or are utilising, most I suspect spawned from the closure of the Sanda Kan operation which was the single largest manufacturing outfit in model railways; as redundant skilled employees set up on their own account, and started bidding for business.)
