Great pics Duke. Really brought back some memories.

Ridden in both that 80's DMU and 60's DMU/Railcar in my time, and shunter excepted, behind the other two diesel types, not necessarily those particular unit numbers. In the 1960s, the silver DMU used to operate low capacity weekend services on the suburban lines. The impression I remember most saliently about each is their distinctive sound profile. Shorncliffe was the terminus of my local line for a while. I used it, but more frequently Sandgate and Deagon respectively one and two stops up the line. Shorncliffe was still a very quiet suburb in the early 1980s. Explosive expansion through 'southern flight' immigration came to Brisbane mid-late 1980s.

The 3'6" gauge sucks. I now live coastal 300km+ north of BNE, and much of the way is still single line op and speed restricted. Frustrating as it is disgraceful on a Hitachi tilt train capable of cruising at twice the speed its actually travelling much of the way through infrastructure limitation or restriction reasons.

I have some QR photos to add here too, if no one objects. Most were taken in the 1980s, and are scanned in from film prints (all are my own). The old camera was playing up towards the end, so some are a bit ropey, but can never be repeated, so I submit them here anyway. I lived and worked in Rockhampton then Brisbane for many years (including meeting and marrying my wife, a Brisbane girl during that time).

1300 and 1270 class diesels, with a couple of the ubiquitous 1720 class, aa 1550 and a 1600 class as well, in Rockhampton. The English Electric locos were largely used on Central Queensland coal trains before the electrification of those lines, but did find their way onto Brisbane suburban duties as well.

When 4472 Flying Scotsman ran a special from Brisbane to Casino and back, with 3801 assisting. This was on the return into Brisbane, with a suburban EMU parallelling us.

Good stuff. Quality is fine. Recognise most of those locations and many of the locos. Is that the Wesley Hospital, or Castlemaine Perkins brewery fromt he other direction In the background of the EMU at Auchenflower 2. A particularly good shot regardless, although Auchenflower station has changed a little.
