Piko Hobby G7 Loco Lights

I have one of these items produced for the French importer SAI in SNCF livery. It is a lovely model and runs very smoothly It has head and tail lights which operate in the direction of travel but I have found that at slow speed the lights do not
appear to operate. I have checked with the parts list and realise that the lights are powered by 14 volt GOW bulbs hence
not enough voltage at slow speed to get them to light. Has anyone tried replacing these lamps with LED's or other voltage lamps ???
