00 gauge micro layout (closed)

Postby Berryman » Sun Apr 21, 2019 10:50 am

Hello everyone,
I have decided to build a micro layout (inspired by the Hornby R9057 trakmat) to get some experience in 00 gauge and, of course, to have a lot of fun. I have built a 0.67m x 1.27m baseboard. I used two Peco points (I need two more), Hornby track sections and second hand Fleischmann HO track sections.
The original track plan:

I'm very pleased with the result:

Thanks glencairn.
This afternoon I built my own DC controller with one LM317 and a ON/OFF/ON two way toggle switch. It works very well. I need another one but I ran out of electronic stuff.

Impressive Berryman. Does it have a form of overload protection?

Not yet. I'll use a very old trick: a car bulb. I also left enought room for a little heat sink.

I think it was you who taught me that. I have bulbs ready to use with my controller. Not yet fit the bulbs. Things are not wired up yet.

Next step: painting the track. Two ideas: Tamiya TS1 or Liquitex "raw sienna". All your advices are welcome.

An other idea for the track plan:

I put a small heat sink on the back of the LM317 and a car bulb as cheap overload protection.

I found the solution right here (thanks PinkNosedPenguin):

Hi Berryman, it seems we are both building micro layouts at the same time :D - best of luck with yours - looks to be a great start so far . . .

Yeah, for track painting, I used Rail Match 'sleeper grime' spray - though I am now proceeding to cover most of it in deep ballast!

Your layout will be finished before mine because I'm not very good at scenery.

Breaking news ! The layout was gently dismantled and all the parts carefully stored for a new layout. This topic is closed. But I'll be back with a new project ! :D
