My trackwork is all nickel silver, does anyone know if it is nickel plated OR is nickel silver the actual material composition (alloy)? The reason for asking is that if it is plated only I don't want to damage the plating when track cleaning/soldering leaving it susceptible to corrosion.
Thanks
Nickel silver track?
Re: Nickel silver track?
All of the nickel-silver track I know of is solid through.
Re: Nickel silver track?
Put it this way. If you keep cleaning track with a track cleaning rubber (Which is mildly abrasive) for a long period... Let's say 60 years of daily use... The track will still look the same colour on the top surface. The sides can turn brown if left outdoors for a year or two but this is externally. If one then rubs the top surface of the rail with a track cleaning rubber it goes back to a shiny nickel sliver finish.
