Diesel Trains to Glenburnie Station
Diesel Trains to Glenburnie Station
As some people know, I run two train services (steam and diesels engines) on the same track layout. Photographs shown have tended to be rather mixed up. It is time to be 'tidied up
Here is a plan of the layout and the services that run.
Diesel Train Services
A -- Fiddle Yard. Is 'The Junction' for all trains north and south that passes Wyndham Farm.
The line over the bridge to the Fiddle Yard is not used on diesel services– B -- Diesel Engine Shed. C – Glenburnie Station. D -- Sovereign Street Station and Yard.
1 - Wyndham Farm. 2 -- The Ash Farm Fields. 3 -- J H Thompson Builders Merchants. 4 -- Marston's Scrap Merchants and house.
5 -- Small Industrial Estate. 6 -- The Bridge. 7 -- North Road. 8 -- Winterwood Manor.
Glenburnie is just south of Newburgh. The Newburgh & North Fife Railway left the Edinburgh & Northern Railway line at Glenburnie Junction.
Glenburnie in model form lies north of Ladybank and south of Newburgh in Fife. It is a terminus station originally served by The North British Railway Station. Like in many places throughout Britain, what were small towns are now growing larger. Glenburnie is one of those towns.
To accommodate the firms at Sovereign Street (a former North British Station on the North Fife Line), a single line was built from Glenburnie to Sovereign Street. The old line past North Road and Winterwood Manor was relaid and services resumed.
East Coast Services.
Passenger trains from Edinburgh and London Kings X arrive at The Junction, pass Wyndham Farm, the diesel shed, J H Thompson's Builder's Merchants and into Glenburnie. Because there is no run round at the station (deliberate), engines are changed for the onward journey to Aberdeen. All services are by Class 55s
West Coast Services
Passenger trains from Glasgow and London Euston arrive at The Junction and travel the line to Glenburnie. Once again engines are exchanged and the train continues to Inverness. These services are by Class 52s.
Passenger services are also ran from Edinburgh to Inverness and Glasgow to Aberdeen plus a local services Stirling to Perth. Classes 25, 26, 27, 37 and 47 are dedicated to these runs.
There are also Pullman services, Mail Trains, Parcel traffic and the 'odd goods train'.
A DMU runs from Perth to Ladybank; another from Glenburnie to Auchtermuchty. They also run to Sovereign Street and travel the 'old North British' line.

Re: Diesel Trains to Glencairn Scholarsgate
Impressive layout, and nice photograpy. It has a rather rugged look about it, which is both novel and convincing.
Nessie rocks!

That's what I get for setting the scene prior to a running session. The locomotive runs well though.

Before my registration, I read all the topics about your layout. A wonderful little world. I truly like it.

I've done the same. Is one of those things one does not notice until another person sees it. Is one of those "Everything works brilliantly until someone important is looking!" moments.

Thanks again PLB. I do like diesels, and try to run to a timetable that takes the best part of a day when alone. When I have my assistants (the grandchildren) the timetable goes out the window,

Class 27 27037 on a container train north to Glencairn. Engines will be exchanged at Glencairn Scholarsgate for the train to continue to Aberdeen
The Craigellachie container started life as a Triang Toys / Pedigree Prams container, but the decals were scratched and torn (on purchase second hand). The Craigellachie logo etc. was cut from a magazine and affixed.
When I lived in Leeds I saw several wagons with 'Manchester Liners' containers on them. I got the pictures of Manchester Containers off the internet.
The freightliner container and wagon was purchased from a model shop. The (second) Craigellachie container started life similar to the one in the first picture.
