BACHMANN 31-127 30xx 2-8-0 ROD

Post by DAVID S. »

Hello all.Has anyone had any experience wether good or bad on this model? My daughter is wanting one to be personalised for her and Hattons are knocking them out at £69 at present. It's going to cost nearly as much to personalise so thought I'd ask the question.
Thanks.

I bought one, from Hattons. Runs very well and pulls 30 wagons round my layout which has a 1:100 incline on it. Very nice model indeed

I don't have one, but a friend does: his runs very well on DCC, smooth, quiet and powerful ... well, quiet when he hasn't turned the sound on (he fitted after-market sound in the tender). His is a figure-8 layout with tight-ish curves and gradients, so is a good test of any locomotive's capabilities.

Edit: friend's version is the LNER one, but essentially the same model.

And again! It's a good model, I have three, and the two oldest have done a lot of running now with extra weight fitted for added traction. (They have to take sixty wagon minerals up a 1 in 80, including reliable starts with the whole train on the gradient, had to do this on every RTR 2-8-0 except the recent Heljan O2) Still quiet and smooth runners, very pleasing all around.

There's one fault that bugs me slightly, the cylinder axis isn't correctly aligned on the driven axle on the O4 LNER versions - cylinder is too steeply inclined - and it is quite a fiddle to put right. This may not be a problem on the GWR version as a different footplate casting was provided

I also have both the 30xx and the LNER 04, and while they have not seen a great deal of running on my small layout, they have performed faultlessly when they have. Both types can be seen in action in the early part of this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAsaFWwjVV8

I have BACHMANN 31-128, running number 3036, the weathered version, it wasn't dirty enough so I had it weathered properly. Great runner and really like this model.

Such a shame none of these fine locos didn't end up at Dai's.
