Is an interesting coupling they used to use on the Corris. I take it that the bar drops down onto a hook... I assume the prototype worked just the same?

I wondered why I hadn't seen it before until I checked the date, it was on here before me!

I saw this coupling loop when I had the idea of making couplings for my narrow gauge railway.
I guess Corris stock also had to be compatible with Ratgoed waggons which were horse drawn. It was a picture of this branch where I saw the interesting single bladed point. If you explore the lanes heading roughly east from Corris you go down and down and when you think you have descended below sea level the lanes take you down and down some more! You get to see some interesting scenes where George Borrow once passed through along with old state workshops which were in use not that long ago. Parts of the Ratgoed tramway were in use many years after the Corris closed.
Its an interesting area to explore.

Mountain, your coupling with the centre buffer/hook looks like it will work. That version on the Corris loco doesn't look as though it would push very well, unless the hook has a horn at the back to prevent the bar rising. Have you looked at the collection of different versions on the ffestiniog?

I origionally tried to make a chopper type coupling (My Mk1) but though it worked, it didn't like sharp curves or heavy loads. I mean heavy, as in more then three or four waggons. The hook had a tendency to rise when heavy loads were being towed. These reasons were why I decided to change to the Mk2 coupling above.

That's the Tatoo class. Can't remember the number. Was it number 5 or number 6? Can't remember. The model in 16mm scale at the top looks like Corris number 4.
Another interesting point to mention. The coaches in the top version are models of as they were in their early form being 4 wheel coaches. The photo of the real thing has a bogie coach and if it is one of the origionals, it was made from combining two 4 wheel coaches together to make a single long bogie coach. Its the type of thing us narrow gauge freelance modellers get up to!

I have to admit that though I've explored the area (By car) I've not walked the old trackbed.

Both the original Corris locos are now on the Tallylyn. Isn't that the preservation group's replica?

BTW the Isle of Man Railway also combined their 4 wheelers into bogie coaches!
