A Real Big Eight
Hello there !
As I can build a big little eight layout, I can also build a real big eight layout. Am I crazy ? I think so !
But there is a little problem in my track plan as you can see below:
All your advices are welcome. Thanks.

Re: A Real Big Eight
Is it not because this isn't lined up properly?
And as its A Real Big Eight...shouldn't there be some more straights?
What layout software are you using Longvallon?
Thanks

Sorry I just noticed the 1st radius curves... are you sure you want 1st radius?
It might be an idea to place the start of the curves so they are properly horizontally lined up rather than starting "around the bend" as it were. And as its A Real Big Eight...shouldn't there be some more straights?

That's close enough that it's not a worry.
More importantly, you may have the bridge the wrong way round.
If intending left-hand running, you have the trains climbing the steeper (inner track) slope and coming down the gentler (outer track) one.
If your *high* track becomes the lower one, this gets reversed and will be appreciably easier on the locomotives.
If right-hand running is intended, leave the bridge crossing as it is.

Re: A Real Big Eight
Just checking: is this for OO/HO or for On30 as well?
Though it's wider than scale, Hornby's standard separation between the tracks may not be enough for the larger narrow gauge models, especially on the curves where centre overhand and end throw increase.
Chris.

You're right. This layout will be for H0/00 only. Not enough room for On30.

SWMBO isn't very happy with my current project. She said: "Keep our money for serious purchases !". What can I do ?

Run away off to the circus.....or your nearest heritage line.
Or tell her...I'm not playing trains.....I'm micro engineering.

Re: A Real Big Eight
I am still on course to sell my big house and buy a small one with a 60ft x 20ft shed attached!
I have the go ahead as long as its not the biggest bedroom in the house I am having for the layout!
It may end up as a cellar if I can find a very low wide house!
