3D Printing: Projects
Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR
Nice work, I especially like the lined out look to the SE&CR Saloon coach!

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR
Thanks Steve sadly not progressed to much due to money problems, guess that's part of being unemployed for over a year, but there you go.
This is as far as I have got, sadly haven't got the funds to purchase another transfer sheet

Sorry to hear about your situation Matt, I was there for about a year and I'm now one month of being there again. All I can say is that things will eventually get better.

Yes sadly I don't have the luxury of waiting for it to get better...

Best of luck in your endeavours Matt, I hadn't registered your situation, but keep on with your designing and construction when you can afford it. It's good enough to be a second string to your bow.
I've just followed up your links. So if anyone wants to use your designs, or even wants to use your design skills, take a look at these.

Yes situation is difficult, bread line stuff at the moment, which is why I haven't posted much internet access I don't have, so posting is tough as well, I appreciate the best wishes, sadly work hasn't been forth coming especially for an old racing driver with minimal qualifications... Sadly Mercedes GP weren't interested...
Anyhow just have to see what happens.
Anyway I appreciate the sharing of the links so many thanks.

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR
I have been continuing to finish my own 3D printed coaches, sold a few already which is good.
Due to customer work, competitions work had slowed down, but recently progress has picked up. I have finished lining, transfers, adding windows to all but one coach, most of the recent work has concentrated on the chassis, step boards have been constructed from brass, and the buffers changed to some cast ones from Dart castings.
Currently in CAD:
LNWR observation car
GN Saloon (revised)

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR
After the success of the little 4 wheeler coaches which have sold well on eBay despite the price so was very encouraged by that. Baxter has had a small update on the file, improved some of the curved surfaces.
So 2 years ago I started building another large coach, having sold my scratch-built version recently I have recently finished an accurate 3D print of the LNWR observation car, of course Bluebell stock but it may interest LNWR modellers. However not a cheap model due to it's size.
I have just ordered the model via my preferred 3D hub and should arrive shortly, the chassis will be from Shapeways, with possibly some additional seats.
The kit consists of:
- Body split in 3 sections (2x ends, 1x middle)
- Flip seating in 3 sections (not working)
- 1 piece chassis
- Roof vents
- Buffers
This is the 3D model at present...

Your 4-wheelers scrub up rather well.

Thanks Tony, yes they have proved very successful and consistent good seller, seem to be a nice small coach which makes a decent 4 wheeler coach which is somewhat lacking on the market at the moment.

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR
The CAD for the LNWR observation car is looking excellent Matt. I do find that it is enjoyable to occasionally revisit previously modelled subjects as information/skills/abilities improve (not that there was anything wrong with your previous effort which was ingenious in its construction).
I do have a soft spot for those four wheelers and often make a beeline for them whenever I find them in service during my infrequent visits to the Bluebell. Again, you've made a very nice job of them!

Hi Matty, no knocking intended, but I've spotted some fabrication lines in a couple of your close ups, that doesn't half make me feel better about my attempts.

Well technically you are, but when our standing 4 ft away no-one has noticed at various exhibitions. Also secondly this is a low resolution print. I have a 50 micro print. There are no lines
