I've considered N-gauge a lot, to the extent that I bought some N-gauge stock and build a small oval out of some spare wood, but I like my collection OO locos and want to see them running, rather then starting again with N

I've decided I'm not going to let a stupid floor get the better of me, rebuilding the baseboard outside of the loft so I know it's level and sturdy, taking more time to make sure everything is well supported, also redesigning the structure for extra stability (should have done this in the first place, but I was too eager to get trains running)

I also hate being beaten by some inanimate piece of wood, plastic, or metal !!
You're certainly not the first to have rushed to get things running and taken the
occasional short cut that comes back to bite.

I can remember crying with rage & frustration when I couldn't get some meccano
nuts to go on almost inaccessible bolts. Threw said masterpiece on the floor, but
when I came back after cooling down I managed ...... Just don't give up !!

I also did most of the ballasting too, had a few days off in this house and my parents are away on holiday so it was the ideal time to get as much done as possible, moving the whole thing back into the loft at the moment, hopefully this image shows the challenge I face up here >_<

I've just been catching up on your struggles, I'm glad you haven't given up. The helix idea would have been bad in that room as what goes up, must also come down, meaning essentially you need 8ft for a pair in 00. Your trackplan looks good and I look forward to seeing more progress shots, (unless of course you've already finished by now).
