Re: Weird Stuff On The railways. What Have You Seen?
Henley on Thames station 7am 13th August 2015.
A 3 car Class 166 in an all over dark green body with grey doors livery (yellow ends) but with no logos or markings.
It was running in multiple with a 3 car Class 166 in the new FGW livery of all over dark purple and pink doors.
Any ideas of where the green and grey livery is from??

New First Great Western livery.
Re: Weird Stuff On The railways. What Have You Seen?
On the M40 near junction 4 at about 2:30pm.
Saw 08721 wearing an unusual blue livery on a low loader going north.

If it was on an Allely's low loader it would have been shifting for a Gronk

Comparing it to the tractor unit (I know it well, regularly holds me up getting in and out of their yard) It's about right for BR blue

Is that strictly "on the railways"?
A railway journey? Let the road take the strain.

Pangborn Station.
Heading away from Reading.
Two BR green steam locos. Look to be identical types (Britannia?) both with smoke deflectors and I think 4-6-2 wheel arrangement.
Running light engine at a reasonable speed.
I was driving the opposite direction along the Oxford Road and only got a few seconds of view.

Saw the same two going through Didcot towards Reading this Sunday 7th May at 20:15 with a long train of Pullman and maroon MK1's.

Semaphore signals still in place.
I saw these yesterday driving along Tarring Road that runs East / West along the south side of the tracks and think they are located at the (abandoned?) sidings just West outside of West Worthing train Station.
Theres also a signal box a little further West at the end of Tarring Road (it changes road name as it goes round the corner at the western end to Elm Grove), just before the pedestrian footbridge and North of the tracks which I also saw from the road.
A rare sight indeed!
Thanks

Re: Weird Stuff On The railways. What Have You Seen?
There are still quite a few semaphores still in use, going north from Edinburgh to Inverness at Easter it seemed to be all semaphores until we got onto the single track.
Weirdest sight of the tour must have been our train being swapped from one platform to another at York, two 37s on the front and a 37 with no brakes plus a 47 on the rear. Someone in the control centre decided Platform 10 was near enough to 9 as requested, but the hoses wouldn't stretch across one track and the width of the island platform to reach the kitchen cars, the ailing 37 wasn't going to be allowed to head the train, so the class 47 Thunderbird had to join in with the fun whilst it shuffled out and back in again, still with some of the passengers aboard. The presence of all of the catering staff and most of the stewards on board must have satisfied the requirements for guarding the slam doors.

A few semaphore controlled stations still in this are. Pembrey and Burry Port. Ferryside. Some of whitland. Barry to Bridgend (Vale of Glamorgan). Panytffynnon on the Central Wales line, Tondu on the Maesteg branch line. Many areas I used to work had semaphores. Whole routes also still use the tokens in Wales like the Central Wales Line (5 sections), the Pembroke Dock branch line (2 sections), the Fishguard line (1 section), the Maesteg branch (1 section between Tondu and Maesteg. Not sure about the rarely used section to Margam).
