Removing saddle tank body

Postby Harry » Tue Dec 22, 2015 2:02 pm

Could someone please save my sanity and tell me how to remove the body of this Hornby saddle tank?

There is a metal clip on either side, but having teased them into what seemed to be every possible position, nothing is budging.

There is a single screw underneath, but removing that had no obvious effect.

On mine, once the spring clips are released, pull the front of the chassis DOWN which releases the rear clips (hooks)

Was taking body off my one and will only add one thing. Be ever so careful. One of the two rear clips snapped off my one. Not a big deal but annoying. They are brittle. Glued it back on with piece of plasticard. John
It was working yesterday last time I used it................... John

The curly wire clips hold the motor into the chassis.
The bodies of these little monsters are always two lugs at each end of the body easily released with a flat bladed screw driver and sustained pressure.
One end is the anchor and the other end is a pivot point.

If it's the tank in the photo the tangs to release are the ones that hook into the diecast footplate assembly. A second set hold the plastic upper body to the footplate. The plastic bodies of other 0-4-0s using the same chassis clip directly to it.
