Test Upload now succesful!

Postby Ex-Pat » Mon Jan 28, 2013 1:44 pm

First attempt to upload a photo.

Hasn't done what I was hoping for - back to the drawing board!!

Edited and back from the drawing board (with thanks to Roger (RJ) in particular for his contribution to the "Idiot's guide to posting photos" thread!).

No particular reason as to why I selected this photo - I just wanted to successfully upload a photo!

(Presumably if I decrease the height in Photoshop then it would fit in without the need to scroll?)

2nd Edit - 425 Pixels height more or less achieves the latter aim - 400 might be the optimum height perhaps?

Personally I'm not a great fan of the pics that need scrolling. If you want to get non scrolling pics then you can upload to photobucket and then link in from there. Photobucket is free to use, or at least it was last time I used it.

Congrats on the first pic though :-)

I actually share your opinion re. scrolling photos, but unfortunately it was my Photobucket attempt which failed in the first place! (No idea why it didn't work, but there again I am not unaccustomed to attracting failure when using new hardware/software.)

In future I'll experiment with finding the exact size so that a photo doesn't need scrolling.

How did it fail? Have you uploaded something to PB already but can't get it to show on the site. If so let me know and perhaps we can solve the problem.

All I recall is that no photo appeared!

I'll upload another to Photobucket and try again.

What's your favourite class from the 80's-90's? (I may even have your favourite loco?)

Don't use the re-sizing facilities on PhotoBucket that aren't compatible with phpBB. I load my pictures into PaintShopPro, re size them to 800 wide and aspect ratio retained, then re-save them in a folder I named as upload. Then I go to PhotoBucket and pull them up from there. The problem seems to be that phpBB checks the image width before downloading, but PhotoBucket only does its resizing "on the fly" when it starts to download -stalemate!

Here we go.......Upload picture to Photobucket, click on picture you want to show on NRM's, on the picture's individual page there are some links on the right, click on the bottom one [IMG], this will automatically copy the link. open up your "new post"
on NRM, ctrl+V in the box and that should paste the link. Click preview to check all is well then submit.

I'm not sure if NRM still maintains the 800px rule but upload in this sze to PB. Here's one I did to test it still works.

I like flicker as it automatically gives you a range of sizes to use - just insert the image URL between the IMG and /IMG tags in my browser i right click on the image and view it will then load up the single image and i can copy the URL / website address

Agree - I find Flickr to be so straightforward to use.

No problems with Flickr.....though personally I've never really been happy with the layout. I prefer Photobucket but only really used it as somewhere to store images online to post in forums.

I used to use fotopic till it went bust and I'm now happy with Smugmug, though this isn't a free service.

Here's a 50 for you BrotherWolf - thanks for your help - think I've now got to grips with Photobucket - not too sure that I can cope with winning 6 i-phones already though! (Correction - I've just noticed that the caption hasn't come out on the Preview! - it should read "50007 - Doncaster - 26-09-82".)

Thanks also alex3410, think I'll explore Flickr later this week.

Well Jim I hadn't seen the Duchess thread until you drew my attention to it - I'll stick with the other option thanks!
