Re: Brookes Castle Shed + End Of Days Entry
Time to save my thread from page 4!
Been a bit busy recently with it being the end of my third and final year at uni so havent had much time to work on my layout
Tho I did build this little beauty
Its a pre-grouping GWR 517 class locmotive built using the instructions from the GWR modelling website a great addition tho it is using an Airfix 14xx chassis at the moment which is a bit old and going to be a pain to DCC fit

Re: Brookes Castle Shed + End Of Days Entry
Time for a layout update been a while since I have done one
Where to start
Well I have been using air drying clay instead of ballast to create an ash/cinder style of ballast that was used at some engine sheds.
I also used some poly filler to create the engine shed floor (photo was taken whilst it was wet still and before I sanded it smooth)
Also built some Ratio Water cranes to water the trains on shed
The shed being test fitted
Rest of the engine shed area been completed.. there are 2 holes for the water cranes to go into
At this point I got a bit childish and got some floor to create a couple of snow photos
I also ended up purchasing a Hornby Scaledale Coal drop for the layout instead of scratchbuilding one like Didcots. In the future I will replace the Hornby one with a prototypical GWR style one but for now it will do.
Thats all the progress for now and to end with a photo I made using instragram
Thanks for reading

Woah! Where'd you get the Aberdaur from? Looks lovely, you have some really lovely engines there.

Re: Brookes Castle Shed - Progress at last
I got her from eBay she has been a royal pain in the bum tho.
Running wise she isnt bad but the person who built her didnt do a very good job with the handrails as one side is higher than the other and the chimney isn't straight but she is ok so happy with her for now but will prob have a go at building my own one in a few years

Re: Brookes Castle Shed - Progress at last
Not much progress on my layout unfortunately
Have added more clay so there is no gap between the coal stage and the front of the board
King at the coal stage
Busy day at the shed
There does seem to be a bit of confusion between my Pannier tank and my daughters can anyone help

Thanks for your kind words
I am very happy with my little 517 she wasn't built to the high standard you have built into your models but for me she has a personality and charm to her

The thing is... it doesnt really matter if your happy with at the end of the day then doesnt really matter what anyone thinks. As you and others may of seen, Im going back to earlier kits... which i did some 5 / 6 years ago... but now my kit building, painting finishing has improved Ive gone back and and re-done them as my expectations have risen over the years... and now there reasonably ok.
Im sure its the same for others as well.
Keep up the good work!

Very true
Its a hobby of a life time so I will improve (hopefully to a good standard) and can redo everything as I go along. Got a Metro tank kit I am going to have a bash out soon Any news on when your photo shoot is going to be published?

Re: Brookes Castle Shed - Help need with signals location
Hey everyone not had much chance to do much on the layout recently which is disappointing but I need some help trying to locate where are meant to go on the layout. I suspect they are meant to be the small circular ground signals but my knowledge of signals is very poor.
Have done a quick track
Any help would be great! Thanks

Re: Brookes Castle Shed - NEW VIDEOS
Hi everyone not done a blog update for a while so thought I would post a couple of videos I filmed over the last week. Since the last update I have finished up all the track wiring (apart from the turntable), added point motors and installed a few lights.
The first is just a general running video of the layout
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IruKjnX2h1A
The second is the better one with locomotives running at night under the lights.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e0YrsjbeuU
Will do a proper update soon
Thanks for reading.
