My mate has just purchased one of these, as he hasn't got a layout I have just track tested it.
One question, are the marker lights above the cab supposed to illuminate ?
I know they do on the newer models.

Congrats to your mate for purchasing Defiance, how much did he pay?martin_l_jones wrote:My mate has just purchased one of these, as he hasn't got a layout I have just track tested it.

Yes the two high eyes should light up otherwise you got a problem.
Hope this helps.

The most common problem with those marker lights is the contacts under the cab interior not connecting properly.
The fix is to remove the body, which just unclips and lifts off, AFTER FIRST PULLING THE ETH JUMPER CABLES FROM THE CAB FRONTS - sorry for shouting but failure to do that step will result in the cables being ripped from the heads of the ETH jumpers.
Then, bend the floor mounted copper contact strips up very slightly so they will contact the strips mounted under the cab interiors. Hopefully, when reassembled, the lights should then work.
My own 50 035 'Ark Royal' suffers a loss of connection every so often and a small tap on the cab roof of the offending end is usually enough to get the lights going again!

Depending where you got it from? take it back to the retailer.
If ebay this is more problematic.

Funny, in an attempt to have a quick look I tried to take the body off but gave up as the underbody parts started to unclip themselves, the tanks and elec boxes.
I didn't want to do any damage so I said he's better off sending it back.
Or get it repaired and submit the bill to the seller if he wants to..

R2434 is a Rail Express Ltd Edition so there should be a certicate somewhere . Was it secondhand or Ebay or something?
Re: Hornby Class 50/1 No. 50149 Defiance
Sorry Rail Exclusive , not Rail Express....
