It's a functional heavy freight locomotive. Looks don't matter to lumps of coal or containers. The huge windscreen increases visibility for the driver; thus making it (slightly) safer. Same for the... things sticking out of the front: they're there to protect the driver in the event of a collision. Why should looks compromise safety?
