Prototype Deltic
Anybody like to see this magnificent beast restored to full working order to be used on a preserved railway or back on the main line?

Re: Prototype Deltic
Not really, leave it where it is and let some REAL Deltics do the mainline tours

Re: Prototype Deltic
I would, I think it would be brilliant to see it running again
But I can't see it happening

Finally!
That is a bloody brilliant loco and the design is gorgeous!
Why can't they simply "reskin" all these boring new ones to make 'em look like that eh?

Re: Prototype Deltic
That proto deltic must've looked pretty futuristic when it arrived on the scene in the 1950s and I bet it raised a few eyebrows at the time as well.
Have to agree with GunnerBill. I can't stand these new fangled liveries that diesels have now. Bring back BR green.

Why are the locos I want, in the liveries I want, always either non existent, out of stock, discontinued or collectors club only/limited editions?
I used to be with it, but now what I'm with is no longer it and what's it is somehow strange and confusing.

Re: Prototype Deltic
It would be great to see it at work, but it was a prototype. As I understand it the production engines won't fit in the prototype body and the originals can't be restored.

Re: Prototype Deltic
There's a cutaway of a Deltic engine at York. If that's one from DP1 then I don't think she's going anywhere soon
If Tornado managed to get built from scratch then a couple of engines for the Deltic should be possible?

Re: Prototype Deltic
The inherent simplicity of a steam locomotive, even one like Tornado lends itself to construction with general purpose tools providing they are of the right size. The Deltic engine which gave the loco it's name is a highly complex device. DP1 would not have been possible if the engine had not already been in production for marine use. Unless there is a spare Deltic engine of compatible dimensions, she's better left alone. Putting any other sort of engine in that body would be sacrilege.
