class 66 problems???

Post by Lewis Nash »

Hi

My 66200 which I bought second hand for christmas,fitted with a bachmann decoder,worked well for a few days,now however,it doesnt.It stops,starts and then when It does get going stops and doesnt start for minutes afterwards.I cant be the track as my other locos work fine?
Does anyone know what is the problem?
Its wheels are clean and its oiled,i don't know what could be the problem?

Too much oil? Make sure the back of the flanges have not got any dirt or oil on and that the pick-up surfaces are clean and haven't got bent. My 66022 suffered from this.

Hi Dave

No ,definitely not too much oil,i use a cocktail stick so only a few drops go on the gears.
I keep looking over it too see what might be wrong but still nothing yet? :roll:
Ill look at the pic ups,can you buy replacement pickups?
Thanks for helping though :)

One question I would ask is do the lights stay on when the motor stops, or go off and on as the motor stops and starts. If the lights stay on when the motor suddenly stops, then it is most likely the connection from socket to the motor where the problem lies. If the lights go on and off with the motor, then it is the pick up efficiency and connections betwen pick ups and socket that need to be looked at

Something that needs close attention are all the electrical connections to the main circuit board. The wires are clipped to tags around the edge of the circuit board, and I have found some of these connections to be loose on some Bach diesels. (Ideally solder the wires to the circuit board, as this is far more robust.)

i'd echo what tinsleytmd says. If its starting on its own after "several minutes" i'd swap the chip out.
