Hey Gareth,
Great to see trains a-movin' in the attic! And also, am I right in thinking that I can claim credit for the name 'Strogaloft'?

No Gareth, don't blame the lighting. If it was any lighter it would lose it's manacing appeal. I love the EMU flying round the layout to the urgency of the guitar riff, reminds me of some contagious disease doing it's rounds under a microscope. The 08 pulling away from Satans own mines, muckied up with untold horrors. A delivery of pure evil to the poor souls. When the dirty 37 appears!..........I know won't sleep for a week..............ROCK!!!!!!!
The video is very good

Ahhh cheers Andrew, your post did make me laugh I thought the guitar riff fitted quite nicely... the riff is nearly as filthy as my locomotivesGROTLAND wrote:I love the EMU flying round the layout to the urgency of the guitar riff, reminds me of some contagious disease doing it's rounds under a microscope.
And Gav, you can indeed claim all the credit for the name 'Strogaloft'. I like it
Cheers fellas

Re: Time to Tear It Up & Start Again ! New Steam Layout Pla
Hello all.
Just been taking a couple of pictures in the loft, so thought I would share...
Been a bit depressed lately, (non railway-related for a change)... So today with the mrs in work and nothing to do I figured theres no better cure for the blues than a new locomotive! So off I toddled to the model shop.
I came away with a Bachmann Warship Class 42. I really love the design of this class, and think it looks great in all its livery variations, the only one in the shop was in BR Green, and was ready-weathered by their in-house weathering service/person... Gotta say on getting it home the weathering was a little disapointing. I'm far from professional at it, but its not far off what I'm achieving with my airbrush at the moment. Judge for yourselves in the pictures.
Its a very heavy loco, which makes for smooth running... but when it comes to descending gradients, it goes into hyper-drive!! My points are unfortunately placed at the bottom of the gradients, so its definately not a matter of sitting back and watching this loco go... you have to keep a close eye on it !!!
(this is the shot with the bit of weathering i wasnt fussed on... the warning yellow area... dont think it looks very pro) :
Let there be lights !!!

The new loco looks great DrStroganoff, I would agree with you about the weathering, doesn't look professionally done at-all. Looks like they dry-brushed the loco instead of airbrushing (this may be my own observation though...)DrStroganoff wrote:Hello all.

The last part about the gradients had me laughing. Keep your chin up, it looks great.

Hi GarethDrStroganoff wrote:Let there be lights !!!
I'm just back from a week in York (discovering in my absence that the postie delivered a special S&S wagon!) and slowly catching up with forum developments and I gotta say, without in any way trying to diss your previous layouts, that the scenic work shown in this pic is lightyears ahead of what was displayed in the old version of the Strogaloft. This kicks ass, my friend! Excellent work!
Cheers,
Gavin

You're welcome... It's a whole new thing for me, this 'making people feel better' malarky. For years friends of mine used to refer to me as Eeyore, on the basis that if anyone was going to say something wouldn't work, it'd be me...

Re: Time to Tear It Up & Start Again ! New Steam Layout Pla
I had to return the 'search-light' today that I bought on the weekend as it was a dud... They didnt have any more so I had to wander around aimlessley thinking 'what can I spend a tenner on'.... But of course its impossible to just spend a tenner in a model shop... so ended paying another £17 to bring home 2 more SR Maunsells for my rake ! The old Hornby types, not the posh new ones though. I have the Bogie Baggage Coach and a 1st class in Malachite. Cant wait to get them up the loft tomorrow behind the WC or the N15

Some photos of nothing in particular !
Been working on one little corner of the layout this week. Trying to make a bit of a 'country lane' type scene, going past the descending main line... I realise now that I didnt actually take any photos of 'the lane', but only photos from the point of view of standing in the lane !
Got the Precursor out for a long-overdue photo!
The newly extended rake of Maunsells:
DMU 'on shed'
More Lights !
Newest addition to the fleet (I know... Again!) A bargain Lima Western:
And finally.... Todays purchase which I'm most chuffed with... 4 Large Display Cabinets (with glass shelves) for my new shop !!! Spent lots today... splashed out on one of those 'Netbooks' and a new printer.... An expensive day !
[Edit, Oops, forgot to add the pic!]

Re: Time to Tear It Up & Start Again ! New Steam Layout Pla
Evening all.
Just the usual progress update...
I was at the Bristol model railway exhibition yesterday, pretty good show. I had to drag 2 mates there kicking and screaming.. My car is in the garage so had to cadge a lift off them ! That was followed by a good few sherbs at the nearest pub! A nice day all in all... for me anyway.... I dont think my mates will be to eager to come again !!
Since I dug out the kit built Precursor that I built, I feel that its a bit of a waste of space, as I've never had it running very well, and now with the trackwork featuring peco crossovers.... it just aint happening. So at the show I visited the GEM stand to purchase an etched kit of the correct chassis... So this will be my first attempt at an etched kit... Any words of wisdom anyone before I dive in ?? I must admit, it looks very daunting and I expect to make a complete mess of it !
Have been up the loft today, adding more lights to the buildings in the town... Also done some little details like the speed restriction signs, aswell as dotting a few people around the town. I also made a 'garden' for one of the houses, complete with patio, see pics !
I should be in my shop within the next 2 weeks !! Very very excited about it ! I'll be a fully fledged, err, model shop guy
[*Edit.... would help if I added the pictures in....]
The busy market...
Young lad admires his parents new patio...
My scratchbuilt carriage shed
EMU looking grimy... note where the narrow gauge line runs on the right... still needs bedding in..
Yet another EMU shot? Go on then...
Finally.... what is surely going to end in tears...
Have a great bank holiday everyone!
