Potters Lane 00 gauge

Post by 87 101 »

Hi all. Some of you on here will already know me from my garden railway thread. If not its in the garden railway section (heatherburn railway).
Work on the garden railway came to a standstill at the beginning of the month, not so much to do with the weather but me being side tracked by a new project. Over on one of my other forums we are building a modular layout. This will be in the form of seperate modules but all following a basic set of standards. Anyone that has been following my garden railway thread will know that im a big 80's WCML fan so it's no supprise to what my module will look like! I will actualy be building two 24"x36" modules that bolt together to form one 6' x 2' layout. With transport to exhibitions in mind weight will be an issue. For my modules I have used an old interior door as the base and signmakers plastic foam core board for everything else. The layout is called Potters Lane and as the name sugests its set in the stoke on trent area. Basicly I have a three platform local station with a small depot at the rear. A canal runs through the middle of the layout and seperates the depot from the station. All the points will be mechanicaly operated via levers located at the rear and the layout will be switcherble between DC and DCC operating modes. So far over the last month I have built both baseboards, one of the canal bridges, a signal gantry and today I finished the station building. Right enough waffle you all proberly want to see the pics.....

Yeah, I like that a lot, especially the interiors of the station building and the subway/canal section plus the lighting. Really nice attention to detail there.

the combination of a super sprinter in those colours and the little bridge at the end of an island platform brings back memories of catching the train from Crianlarich on the west highland line in the mid 90's. dunno why!

Tonight I've built the basic shell of the signal box. Again this is based on the box at Kidsgrove but this time I have moved the cabin to the opposite side of the base and swapped the doors and windows accordingly. The prototype was a standard LMR design of a brick built base with a wooden framed cabin on the top and could be seen all over the north west. I decided to start with the hard bit so the window frames were drawn onto paper then a clear plastic sheet was placed over. As I have run out of microstrip I had to resort to cutting 1mm strips of plasticard to make the window frames as shown here...

Image

Once I had built up all the window sections I cut some 3mm foam board to form the base and back wall....

The base was fairly straight forward, basicly a box made from 3mm foam board. This was covered using brick paper. With the top section placed on we get....

To give an idea of what it will look like I placed it on the layout......

Once dry I can start adding the interior detailing.

Nice modelling ! photo's do them credit. I especially like the detail on that green painted girder bridge, topside detail very well reproduced.

Very Impressive.

paticularly like the canal scene. I can almost smell the wee under the bridge, from last nights drunks.

It looks like you spend a lot of time getting things "just right". Definatley one that I'm going to keep a look out for.
