47806 Goes Trainspotting

Postby 47806 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 9:14 am

Hello all!

This is my new thread to take into account the restructuring of my online photos. My Canadian railway photos can now be found at:
http://thomasblampied.fotopic.net/c1637908.html

My United Kingdom railway photos can be found at:
http://thomasblampied.fotopic.net/

I will begin to post new railway photos here again once I have finished restructuring my photos.

Thanks for looking! :D

It's exam time and I find that the best thing to calm the nerves is trainspotting. One shot from Ely yesterday:

Exams are over (but I have seen my summer exam timetable and I am dreading it) so I now have more time for railways again. I have put together my official railway photography portfolio: http://www.geocities.com/thomasblampied ... ohome.html

Some of the photos I have posted already online, some have never been seen before. I would appreciate comments/suggestions, otherwise enjoy viewing the photos!

I am hoping to post some snow photos from today's weather within the next week.

And of course, Tornado in glorious sunshine.

A good day I would say! The snow certainly adds a little something to any picture. Really like the Tornado pic, and congrats on an early sighting of the DBS livery too!

Thanks! I really hadn't expect to see anything but Tornado so 152 was a real treat. I had feared that I would have to wait months to see the new livery.

I went to Ely yesterday to buy the points for my new model railway (see my signature for the layout thread) and then I went walking to find some new photo locations. Here is the best:

It is indeed. I ought to try 'just walking' somewhere near a line and see what viewpoints I come across! It would be nice to get a totally different type of shot that really places the train in the surroundings rather than just filling the frame with it.

Thank you for the kind comments. I started to try and put trains in a setting in Canada once I discovered that I had photographed all of the GO Transit F59 diesels. Since I had a record of all of them, I could begin to zoom out a bit and be more artistic.

This shot was a bit of an accident because it left the station earlier than I had anticipated and I stopped at that spot because I was about to lose any chance of a photo. I'm suppose I was lucky!

Just read Railway Herald Issue 167, my Ely river photo takes up all of page 17! :D :D

Lessons were cancelled this afternoon so I went to Ely in lovely sunshine.

An almost identical shot to my last outing in Ely:
Image

I headed back to the station after a few hours wandering along the river and waited for the Leeds-Felixstowe intermodal:
Freightliner 66569 in very good light, the shot would have been impossible a month ago!

I am noticing a lot of empty container flats on intermodal services, a sign of the recession?

Also, have a look on page 29 of the April 2009 Railway Magazine, my letter was published!

Nice shots Thomas, that riverside spot has potential!
Many intermodals/'liners run part empty, no necessarily a sign of recession, more to do with the fact they are semi-permanant coupled, stock movement and that they'll be required at the destination.
Believe me, 95% our 'liner/modals coming out of Southampton are fully loaded!
