Ollie's New Layout Plan - Formerly Kidderminster

Post by olliereading1123 »

hello, by now most of you will know that i hav had numerous attempts at planning a layout, these include Watchet, Gains Park Way, D.M.U, Wolverhampton. My current idea is Kidderminster!!!

The layout will be from the road over bridge to the footbridge, shown below:

Image
Image

the majority of the plan is to scale (by use of maps.live.com and a ruler) the only part which is not is the carriage repair shop. This layout will be viewed as shown in the plan with the mainline at the back, and i would like this layout to be DCC Sound, How easy is computer control?

This will be a very long term project as i am having my room redesigned, at the momment i will be obtaining track and stock, so far i have

3 lengths flexi (wooden sleeper code 55)

Western Ranger
Defiance
80079
46443

about 15 carriages
25 odd wagons

thoughs and comments anyone

You could have :
Class 20 (BR Blue)
Class 37 (BR Blue, Large Logo Blue, railfreight)
Class 40 (BR Blue)
Class 45/46 (BR Blue)
all of these hauling a variety of Mk1 coaches

Many inter-urban local services now run by sprinters used to be local hauled
I can't remember what used to operate before Class 165, 166, and 168, but I am quite sure these used to be loco hauled too

Passenger services are all DMU, the loco hauled stock (Voyagers thesedays, but also a lot of the New Street services after Snow Hill reopened Northwest towards Smethwick) taking the other route from Droitwich to the Lickey Incline ending up approaching New Street from the other end. Before the class 150 sprinters took over with longer haul journeys to Malvern and Hereford also seeing class 156 and 158s from the New St - Cardiff timetable rostored (later, the local class 150 services returned to Snow Hill but the 156/158s kept running from New St) the line was operated by class 101 and 108s from memory. I also remember seeing 116/117s on the line at Colwall station, but I'm not sure where those originated from (I was only 10 at the time), but rtr the latter aren't available.

Freight on that line is currently a lot of steel trains that work to and from the Brierly Hill area, its mostly in the hands of class 66 traction but the odd 60 turns up from time to time as well as the Handsworth scrap trains, also in the hands of a 66. Up until 1994 when it was mothballed, the line continued to Walsall (Bescot) so there was the possibility of almost anything turning up behind a 31, 37, 47, 56, 58 or 60. After 1994/95 the Brierly Hill workings were mostly in the hands of class 56s or 37s until the 66's made real inroads to both classes.

The Dapol telescopic hood wagons would be pretty much perfect for most of the trains. The forthcoming BDA bogie bolster and BRA/BYA covered steel carriers will also fit the scene nicely, as will a train of VDA/VGAs and Dapol Cargowaggons for finished products coming outbound. Farish also do suitable wagons for the scrap trains.

Even nowdays Kiddie is an interesting place to watch the railway, it still sees regular freight traffic as well as the passenger trains. With the forthcoming releases from Farish and Dapol you will be able to run rtr trains from the present day back to the early 80's when the SVR moved into Kidderminster.

At the end of the day mate its your railway. You can run what you want.

But you can resliticly run a 67 + EWS Special Train, 67 + Royal Train. Network Rail Test Trains (All seen on the SVR this year).

A 66 with open wagons during the recontruction.

As for the mainline. Anything goes.

A Deadengine move to Barrow Hill with a 55/40/20/37 in hauled by a 47 ?

cheers mate, so far i've decided on the following:

centro 150 (if it ever gets released)
central 158's
central 170
chiltern 168
steam rail tour(s)
diesel railtour(s)
freight
steam light engine
xc and virgin voyagers (to act as they have been diverted)

and the odd other thing.

also progress on this layout will start soon as i have got an order from peco coming in at Shrewsbury Model Centre so i can get playing, and converting locos, and trying to fit sound chips (if possible)

Sounds like a great idea for a layout Ollie, don't forget that you can run pretty much any preserved steam loco on it as the SVR gets visiting locos at special events (I always find the Autumn Gala is good for seeing some unusual engines).

yeah, currently i have more visitors than home based engines.

my home fleet may be increased in the future as i have 7808 on order from ixion which is preserved at didcot. and may use fox transfers products to renumber another so i have 7819 in BR black
