Hattons
I use Hattons almost exclusively for mail order as I find them by far the more user friendly site. As has been said, they only advertise what they actually have in stock at the time so you don't have to wait weeks to get something. Longest I've ever had to wait was when I ordered late on a Saturday night, but I still had my Class 44 in hand by Wednesday. Saying that, I do spend some time in St Helens with the other half as well, which is only down the road from them (pretty good shop too!), so I could pop into the shop itself if I ever had any problems and deal with them directly, which I haven't needed to yet; apart from the Dapol 9F (which Dapol want to see for themselves so its going back there instead of back to Hattons).

Despite my lack of love for their site, I decided to go ahead and order from Hattons as they seem to get generally good reports. I'm a bit disappointed really. I ordered last Wednesday evening, got a reply saying they try to despatch within one working day. Next I hear is a message sent yesterday telling me some bloke featured on their website dispatched my items that day. Six days later! All the items were supposedly in stock. Not that I'm surprised. This seems to be the way with online hobby shops.

I have ordered £173 worth of track from hattons but I know that they will be backed up with orders that they got over the christmas and new year period,so orders made in the last week or so will take time to be sent out so don't worry you should have it today or tomorrow if it was posted yesterday.

I must admit this is very unusual for Hattons. I get most of my new model railway equipment from them and items ordered are usually picked & packed by "some bloke" within a day of me ordering it. The only time I suffered a real delay was when the postal strike was on in the Liverpool area which crippled Hattons to the point of them using "citylink" next day service at no extra cost for all their deliveries.undereaves wrote:Next I hear is a message sent yesterday telling me some bloke featured on their website dispatched my items that day. I guess it is down to how desperate you are to receive your order. The guaranteed next working day delivery offered by Hattons is the best way to order if you want your item that badly. I often find a quick phonecall to them can also speed thigs up a little if you are disattisfied or you think something might have gone wrong. It's also nice to speak to a person sometimes too instead of just waiting for nothing to happen and can often end up with positive results
I do think that we are all too quick to moan at slow delivery when in days of old any mail order company used to slap a "please allow 21 days for delivery" clause on their orders. Hattons do say "they aim to dispatch within a day" but an aim is not a promise so again there is no real cause to grumble.
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side!
I placed an order for some fishplates last Friday. Still waiting ahem!
High towards the far post,Howard with a header,Hes done it!Steve Howard has scored for Leicester City,Bedlam here at the Walkers Stadium. the Leeds United players are flat out on the turf in utter despair. Leicester City are going to win again

this is not
NOT NOT NOT like Hattons at all!
this is all-most unknown for Hattons...
what i got to say is call them!
from inside the uk 0151 733 3655
from outside the uk 44 (0) 151 733 3655
i believe you do not use the 0 in the ( ) from outside uk.
last year when i had a problem with a DCC decoder chip. Hattons bent over backwards to get it shorted!
tune out that hornby DCC system don't like some of the Bachmann Chips
any how. if you call them you should find out why it is so slow right now.
Hattons may i am not saying Hattons will just that Hattons MAY give some compensation for the delay!

I had ordered something from Hattons Dec 21 just before xmas & with no packing/posting e-mail, I contacted them & they had decided to hold off on overseas orders as they would have been stored at the Courier Depot over Xmas & they, Hattons, did not want that in case of theft, etc,
They got started on the O/S about dec 27 so things shoi be moving soon - I got one lot that was packed & posted Dec 22 2 days ago.

not sending so it lowers the odds of it being left in a Courier Depot.
there for removed the odds of the item getting lost or stolen.

I was going to order some Bachmann coaches from them, but I think I'll leave it for at least another week so more of the backlog's sorted!
Usually if I order something from them in the morning, its normally packed by the evening! I do agree, very unlike them!

Bit of a bugger that I didn't get typical service. This was a trial as much as anything, although I needed track. Think I'll buy most of my stuff from Wakefield Model Centre, in person. Bit of a trek, but a enjoyable buying experience.
Btw my track turned up today. Just laying it out on my boards. Getting more sense of how it will look.
