I have decided to add a mini news section to this thread.

27-Sept-07

I have brought eight 3rd radius curves to form the outer circle of the mainlines, so now i have enough track to complete the two mainlines and the start of the depot entry road.

My next target is to complete the junction on the mainlines then buy track work for the yard on the outside of the mainlines and the depot its self on the inside of the circle.

I am however thinking about adding a head shunt to the depot entry road as the plan at present has a very long curved entry road then straight onto the shed.

Also I am looking for suggestions from yourselves about my next locomotive purchase.

Im looking at a 37/5. or 37/4. the 37/4. (37410) would be for conversion to 37422 Cardiff Canton is ex works condition.

News update 09 October 07.

I have sourced and im now awaiting delivery of 6 sets of turnouts for the main junction, which will allow access from yard/Headhunt onto the mainlines up and down and then on to the depot entry road/head shunt.

Also this now allows me to use the one turnout I already have to be used on either the depot sidings or the yard sidings.

I have also purchased enough curved track and some straight track for the whole of the depot entry road (curved) and the plain line straights for the depot head shunt and yard head shunt.

Now my initial track layout is coming together towards completion I have come across a problem, how to power the inner circle and depot, do I need another power track section? And how do I make the points (Hornby set track) live for DCC operation ?

My website hasn’t been updated yet im awaiting the arrival of the above so i can include some pictures and more detailed plans.

Cheers

News Update 13-October-07

My additional track has arrived however im still awaiting the turnouts.
Ive modified the track layout AGAIN ! What i plan to do now is straighten out the shed roads and somehow add additional sidings.

I had thought that once this track had come ive had enough to complete the whole track plan but I still short by some way now ive extended the plan a little.

I still need some 2 & 3 radius curves, a few curve turnouts and standard left and right hand points.

I still deciding whether I want to power operate the points and if so to do it will the SELECT controller or a peco switch types.

As ive extended the track layout by extending the former shed area and rebuilding it into a yard, this will add about an additional inch or two to the standard 6 x 4 board.

Oh and ive updated the website with additional pictures of the new that is until i change it again layout plan.

Good Evening.

My Model Railway.com has a new addition a Bachmann Class 158 (158726) in First Scotrail colours.

This unit along with a Class 170 Turbostar in First Scotrail will form my passenger carrying fleet.

I am also thinking of change the use of my carriage sidings as i have found the head shunt is only long enough for a two car unit and I don’t have room to extend it for three car operation.

I am thinking about a main works reception sidings such as like at Wolverton with a special 08 and brake van with adapted coupler or something.

This would allow me to run any unit i want whether it be a Regional Railways 158 or Arriva Trains Wales one or even a former Anglia Railways Class 170 arriving for refurbishment and repainting

I could even have a EMU in for life extension of heritage overhaul (with an eye on the forthcoming EMU from Bachmann  ).]

Anyway a full update is available on the website.

Cheers.

Good Afternoon,

Another little update to go with the full news section on the website.

I taken delivery of eight MEA box wagons to form the basis of a coal train, i also hope to add four more in the coming week.

Also i have dropped 66705 (GBRF) Limited Ed. from my program of additions due to it not really being my cup of tea and fitting into my other plans for my traction fleet.

Another Mainline Blue unbranded MEA arrived this morning to make the rake up to 9 vehicles now, the plan to add 3 more to make 12 didnt come off as the 3 coal sector MEA when for in excess of 9 pound each!.

I have my eye on 5 EWS coloured MFA open spoil wagons to go with a future Seacow rake of 3/4 wagons.

On the track and loco front, track is be sought for the remained of the layout at present although due to other on going projects this is on the backburner at present due for review in Jan/Feb 08.

Locomotives, well i was due to take delivery of 66705 this month but i decided that the engine wouldnt fit into the motive power plan and also i dont have the room to run intermodal trains with twin wagons and there are not enough general user engineering wagons to use a GB 66 on.
So i have decide that i am now looking for an DCC ready Bachmann or Hornby 08 for my yard and 'works/CS/thing sidings'.

The track layout has undergoing testing with live movements over the week i slight concern was that trains crossing the west ladder in the yard where derailing on the R/H on to L/H points on to R/H curve, but after investergating this i have imposed a strict 5mph limit on movements in the whole yard.

Train length testing has concluded that the maximum lenght of trains (Freight) will be 9-10 4 wheel wagons or 5/6 bogie wagons of BYA/VGA design.

I thing December will be a quite month for My Model Railway.com but further testing will be under taken and the site updated accordingly.

Also can i thank the 1800 of you who have visited and commented since May. Cheers it is really great to see so many people watching the development of my model railway.

Cheers.

Marc.
