Automate Hornby R636 Double Level Crossing

Postby Dwarfboysim » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:41 pm

Hi all,
I am sure I found an article some time ago on him to add some motors under the baseboard to automate this set of gates. If anyone can offer some step by step instructions I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Dwarfboysim

The problem I see with that kit, as most level crossing kits, is fitting the actual servos both to the board and to the gates themselves.
This is the bit I've struggled with.

There's a much cheaper way to automate gates as per my earlier link and I'm sure you could implement sensors for the automation.
Sound could also be implemented.
Picaxe / Arduino / Raspberry PI, take your pick. These all have quite the support base now for railway modellers and can do some great things from my understanding.
Thanks

I am currently making a barrier type, with aid of an Arduino, mostly done but not assembled as yet, once that is proven, I will make one for gates some time in the future. No help now, but will eventually be written up and posted on here. The mechanical principles you need for servos are here.
