Container spreader idea

Postby Corsavxr » Tue Dec 26, 2017 2:50 pm

hi

Hopefully I have used the correct forum for my question. I am currently modifying a Kibri container crane so that it will be fully motorised. I would like to use a spreader model to grab and pick up the container but unsure what is the best procedure for using gears etc.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Best wishes

Iain

The Heljan DCC one uses an electromagnet, to pick up containers that have a steel bar at the top. I imagine making a motorised mechanical grab would involve some very fiddly and small mechanisms! It might be possible with 2 or 4 solenoid operated levers?

In 00 the spreader arms would not be particularly fiddly to mechanise. Two strips of Lego or similar rack engaged on a central toothed gear, or you might be able to find the parts in the gripping mechanism of a windscreen/dashboard phone holder. It might need the help of an electro-magnet to overcome the crush it or drop it dilemma.

Just found this on YouTube. I just need to work out how to set up the motor i.e use a bevel gear system to run the driveshafts?

False pickup mechanism and rely upon an electromagnet attracting a steel washer glued to the top inside of each container.
