Retro fitting building internal lighting

Postby brober » Mon May 03, 2021 5:35 pm

I am wanting to retro fit LED lights into some Metcalfe buildings (house, cottage, etc). Has anyone done this successfully and if so how. What LEDs did you use?

it was a few years back but yes.

I used 5mm LEDs, white ones, on a 12v DC supply, IIRC about a 1k resistor but you would need to check the spec of the LEDs. higher resistors dim the LED a bit, too high and you get nothing

solder the resistor to one leg, doesn't matter which, one resistor per LED.

its harder with multi-level buildings with an internal floor

trick is to make sure the LED can't be seen through the window, also watch out as any gaps in the kit will show up amazingly well

its much easier to add lights as you build, but you certainly can add them after

These led lighting strips come on a roll and they are self adhesive. You can cut them into groups of three. They have a resistor included so they run on 12V.

Rob,

Thanks for the pic. That looks like it will do the job with some flexibility. Would you be able to give me some more details on spec, manufacturer and source please.

actually, even if you are in the UK, they might be cheaper to buy from here.

Thanks Rob,. These appear to be water resistant. I think I can down spec to internal use only. Let's see what Mr eBay and Mr Amazon have. Appreciate your help.
