Hi all, Just completed the 16T mineral wagon, no problems, went together well, Old age and sight being the major issues for me!

The connectors: I have started rebuying small wagons etc. I want some opinions on what connectors to use. At this early stage it would be no problem to convert to one size fits all. I have varied connectors on at the moment on the rolling stock bought on Fleabay.

The track will be a representation of an end of line holiday terminus in the 40s' and fifties. Coaling yards and wood merchants with a few sidings for shunting action. I will also have a run round oval(s) for the ubiquitous visit of an LNER express train.

For a RTR autocoupler for wagons, I would suggest Bachmann's miniature tension lock. Available in both screw on and NEM pocket fiiting versions, and generally easy to find stocked by retailers. (For reliability stick to one manufacturer's pattern.) Peco should have the Parkside -Dundas mounting blocks available to accept the dovetail on the end of the NEM pockets. This can be cemented onto kit wagons very easily.

Good little wagon kit, well worth making.

I have harmonized onto Bachmann NEM small tension lock couplers.
This has involved converting a few wagons, like Lima and older
Hornby by sawing off all traces of the original fitment. Why ?
Simply that wilth all stock running the same couplings I get MUCH
improved reliability.

Now back to your kit : On the floor underside at each end you have
a raised boss that was part of the original Airfix arrangement. Just
make certain there is no flash. These then make the ideal attaching
point for the Parkside/Peco PA34 mounting blocks. First however cut
away the two side ribs, then lightly sand the remaining flat base to
remove around 0.5 mm. Snap a Bachmann NEM pocket complete with
coupling into the dovetail. Really wet the PA34 base with liquid poly,
press into place on the boss with the rear just clear of your axles.
MAKE certain that they are stuck in with the buffing bar in alignment
with your 'standard' and other wagons. They also need to be central
and in alignment along the axis of the wagon.


My last 5, still 3 kits in stock.

Done well you should be able to reverse trains in excess of 30 wagons
length across points without derailing.
