Hi Mike, Just get rid of those groups of programs and create shortcuts to the ones you are going to use. Then it behaves just like Windows 7, with a slightly more graphical start button.

Good evening troopers,

I'm now testing things out & have finished a new kit to joint the Wordsworth range. This kit is long over due & extends the shipping containers into the 40' range. I've changed the design so this kit has a 2mm card sub base which is simply wrapped in a printed covering sheet.

Lets look at the new 40' container

Image
Here is the first build showing a Cosco container.

I'm just doing a tidy up in Corel draw & I hope to upload the new kit Friday evening ready for all you weekend card builders to enjoy.

A short video is on my YouTube channel should anyone need some guidance.

Cheers Mike.

Nice to see you back in action Mike. Living in a house full of computers you forget what one breaking down does to sensible people who can normally live with just one! After reading your misgivings about moving on to Windows 10, I read an article from one of the Gurus the gist of which was that the operating system was rapidly becoming irrelevant, it's the application that matters! Then I caught myself in answer to a question from Mrs W saying "I just typed in ......." The assumption being that the only place you now "just type in" is the search bar in a browser!

Morning all you card builders, I eventually got the new 40' shipping container kit uploaded but what a nightmare I had. I use webplus 5 to design & maintain my website but it stores the site in a weird manner inside a compressed file that only webplus can read.

Long story short when I run it for the first time to open my website it had lost all the links to the images etc. After a few hours the penny dropped when I noticed it was looking at the C hard drive as per old laptop, my C drive is for Windows only & all data is stored on the D hard drive. All I had to do was find a why of quickly changing the file addresses.

I remembered reading a post saying you can extract your website from the webplus format using winter. It works, found the resources.xml file & edited all the old addresses to show the new file addresses. Saved it back into the compressed file before running it again in webplus, one happy bunny, thought I may had to have entered each line manually at one point.

Anyway I'm up & running. Might think about changing my setup so everything runs from my network drives rather than local disk drives. This would mean should I need to change devices again the file names stored will remain unchanged.

Sorry for boring you with the above but it may help others at some point.......computers.

Cheers Mike

Hi Mike,

Further to the email I sent you a few days ago. Ooops  I can't remember some of the things in the email as my email program crashed and the sent mail box is empty! I'm asking if you have photos of the Grey Stone Arched Retaining Wall construction, or even of the finished wall itself. I remember one of the questions in the mail, :) I was going to use it on a curved section, but I need to check the finished build as I need to get heights.

Sorry for being a nuisance.

Ian (Australia)

EDIT: Found a couple of photos from Doghouse posted on December 28 2013. Exactly what I want. Now I can test build it to see how it fits in the space I have allowed for it.

I was hoping to have a few extra kits ready for Christmas but I've failed. Maybe I'm too blame as I've been working on several kits at once.

I've got a lovely new terrace row close to completion called Butlers Terrace. I've got very close to completing a small express take away building. I'm about half way through a loco wash unit building.

I'm very close on my road bridge build & the steel sided bridge kits. The viaduct kit is another one very close to completion.

So I failed for Christmas but I'm sure the new year is looking grand as far as kit releases are concerned.

So all what's left for me now is to wish everyone a very merry Christmas & a happy New year

Seasons Greetings to you and yours too, Mike.

Thank you for the great services you have done for railway modelling this year.

However, re. you last post, the word "failed" has no place here. Your services to modellers is excellent and all for free! Do not pressure yourself with self-imposed deadlines, and do not feel you have failed if they are not met. Your loved ones and yourself are the most important thing, especially this time of year. Model railways and the rest of us can wait, and later, you can continue your work steadily and comfortably.

Once again, Mike, my very best wishes to you, and be kind to yourself!

I'll go along with that, you do us a great service Mike. It's your time and expertise that you give for free, and though it may not always be said we are very grateful for it. Seasons wishes Mike have a great Christmas.

Mike
Can I just say thanks for all the effort you put into providing the downloads of your designs. I have used them on past layouts and will use them on my next one.

I use WebPlus 6 and 7 with Win 10 for my personal and old boys association websites design and maintenance and have to agree that the way Serif converts and stores things can be a pest, especially if you want to share information about pages or picture albums, etc.

I have many downloadable files (large and small) on my Robs-Rails site so if I can be of any help to you by showing how I set that up please contact me via my site link in my signature. Unfortunately WebPlus is now obsolete with nothing similar, cheap enough and simple enough for me to use in the marketplace, so I am stuck with its limitations, e.g. no more support for smart objects, etc.

I too use WebPlus for Lumsdonia, originally 7, but it stopped working so I bought Webplus 8. Although I still use it, one day it will nonrecoverabley fall over, so we need a replacement to be investigated, maybe we should start a thread for all, to show our investigations of other software for it's eventual replacement?

I use Bootstrap at https://getbootstrap.com as the progamming language and Adobe Brackets as the editor both of these programs are free and activley updated. You can see the results on my websites as listed. Just a thought to kick of the process.

Happy New Year all you card builders.

I thought I'd start the New Year off with a new kit which is part of the Daffoldil Farm set. Today I've just finished building the tractor shed / hay loft. It uses the same brick paper as the farm house kit.

I've done a Youtube video part of the "Lets build a card kit series" I'll upload this within the next few days followed by the kit onto the website sometime Friday evening so it's ready for all you Saturday morning.

Lets have a look at the new kit.

Image
We start of with the front view showing two tractor / storage bays with an entrance door to outside utilities. The hay loft is on the right side of the building.

Image
A side view showing the utility storage part of the building

Finally we see the hay loft access point.

Hope you like this latest kit, hot on the heels is another brand new kit which I'll reveal a little later. Now I want to do some modelling on Wordsworth around my farm yard area.

Cheers Mike.

Hi Mike,

Just a quick question. I'm having trouble finding the thickness of 300GSM card. Could you tell me the approx. Thickness in mm please.

The card I am using for your kits is approx. 1.9mm. Is this too thick? It has stamped on the back "ILLUSTRATION BOARD - MEDIUM"

Hope you can help me.

Ian Bell.
