Partwork Flying Scotsman
Re: Partwork Flying Scotsman
Hi,
I think the problem has been solved, whilst hunting for answers, I came across this, link is below,
http://paulmblythe.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... ting-rods/
I followed the procedure and it worked a treat, even though I put a dab of solder on the end of it all, I will still be able to remove it if needs be and re-use the parts, simply by de-soldering.
Now all I have to figure out is how the return crank is supposed to work, cant find any thing in the instructions about that either.
Looking back over what I have done so far, I have come to the conclusion that the biggest complication in this build has been the instructions, come sequence of build and general lack of simple information.
Only these forums have saved the day.

Some more lining.
Those red lines took a loooong time but they're done now!
I changed my LED desk lamp for a less spotlighty CFL one and I can stare at things a lot longer with it. All day in fact.

On to the boiler and cab.
Everything gets chopped into manageable pieces which can be adjusted to fit.

That's all the decals done now. Just needs some black areas touching in with paint and it can be varnished.

That's the part of model building that always fills me with fear and dread. 1 false move with the can and the whole thing is ruined.
Have to say tho you have done a sterling job on the "Scot"

Ha! been there already. Touching in black on one of the splashers and the paint bled into the white line so I tried to scrape it off with a toothpick. That took part of the decal off so I had to paint the white back on.
You can see it pre-repair on the centre splasher somewhere above....

Touched in the cab front.
Note to self: Do not attempt this in OO gauge

Re: Partwork Flying Scotsman
Varnish applied. Couldn't help sticking the wheels back on it and seeing how it looked.

Re: Partwork Flying Scotsman
Yeah, well, looks kind of OK, I guess.
Sorry - seriously, that looks absolutely amazing.

Re: Partwork Flying Scotsman
Damn I've no idea how you stayed sane through that build with the kit defects and such.
Re: Partwork Flying Scotsman
Not sure I have.
Here's another partwork I've been sticking together.

Aaand another one....

Anyhoo here's the motor and gearbox tested for size and it fits quite nicely. It's an ABC VML2 26:1 with a Canon motor. It should be good for a maximum speed of around a scale 100mph

Nameplates!
Daub 'em in gloss black

Then rub 'em down on some finishing paper and seal with a coat of Quick Shine.
I managed to kink one when rubbing down

A cab full of things. With hindsight I should have got some decals for the gauges.

Thanks, but the problem isn't getting decals, it's putting them on now everything's stuck in....
