Disguising roof trusses

Postby Oggy12 » Tue Oct 01, 2019 2:36 pm

Chaps

I suspect like many of us who have a loft layout, I have a number of roof trussses protruding from the layout up to the apex of the roof. Any clues as to how to reduce their current rather unsightly appearrance would be very welcome. Current thoughts include painting them white, sky colour or whatever colour the scenery is from which they protrude.

This might be a simple and effective way of doing it: If you have access to all sides of your layout, string a line between the rafters on the side(s) you look at during sessions or want to photo and hang a length of suitably coloured fabric from it. This will give you a choice of 'skies' ranging from grey to summery blue. Care should be taken of course to make sure it does not come into contact with the layout's or other wiring or interfere with the normal circulation of air through the loft.

It's difficult to say without a picture...

White (and light colours) reflect light and therefore will stand out more
Black (and dark colours) absorb more light and will blend more

If the trusses are vertical or close to vertical you could wrap the in a card building at the base which could help.
Never enough time...........
