Station building over tracks

I'm building an OO layout based on a Freezer plan. It has a station building which is at road level, which is higher than track level. There are steps down to the platforms from the station building. The station building is over the tracks. Here's an extract from the plan to show what I mean:



I am trying to envisage what this would look like; what kind of building would be suitable in a situation like this. I am modelling the Steam/Diesel transition period in the UK, somewhere ex-LNER ish, but I'm not being too strict about the actual area. Can anyone point to me pictures of stations like this in real life, or to pictures of a layout which has a station like this?

Go to Google Images and search for Tyseley Station. It's not your region but is a very good example of an "over the tracks" location of an otherwise standard station building. It has been restored to very nearly it's original appearance.

Basically a steel structure over the track. holding up the building at road hight.
With a bridge to access the platforms.
I have seen a picture that matches the above description.
That would be fairly simple to do.
wish i could remember where I saw the picture.
You would need the old style Triang building Complete, plastruct I beams and most of the old triang foot bridge plus a bit of plasticard.
This was a steel frame the sheet of plasticard forms the deck the building sits on and a bit of a deck at the back of the building.
Wall off the back providing a safe passenger access to platforms, the Triang foot bridge has one end wall cut out which buts up to the walled off deck giving the way out through the building.
Far easier to build than to try to describe it without a picture.

Heaton looks good, and in the right area, but I think I may go for something like Witham; having looked at some more pictures of it, and on Google maps, I really like the look of that, and the station in the plan could even have been based on it. For some reason, I just couldn't picture a brick-built station supported on girders like that.

I've got a OS map of Witham from 1922 which shows the turntable as well.

It depends what sort of bridge you're looking to model. A brick arch bridge can be built using embossed plasticard or with ordinary card and brick paper. A plate girder bridge should be relatively simple to build as well. Of course, there are usually kits available for this sort of thing if you don't fancy building it from scratch. It's worth having a browse for some images of railway bridges and see what would fit best into your model.

I( would imagine Loughborough could be a good example and were not most of the Great Central stations built to this format. Beeman.

Loughborough's a good example that's still in use today on the Great Central. The building is basically an extension of the bridge carrying the road.

Northbridge has a building over tracks, it spans the freight tracksto the side of the station. The building is based on Haymarket in Edinburgh, the lower part is based on Bellgrove in Glasgow
