Can anyone recommend an earth coloured paint to apply beofre static grass etc?

There are hundreds of different coloured dirts varying from red to brown and other colours as well.
Take a look at pictures from where you are modelling and go from there.... Humbrol Matt Dark Earth is quite a good start tho but expensive if you want to cover a large area.
Tester pots from **Insert favorite DIY store here** make a more ecconomical option... and the paint can be watered down to give even more coverage

Of course, I hadn't thought of the many, many possible colours before I posted that question. (Note to self - occasionally turn brain on.)

i just went for brown poster paint cheap and abundently availible,,,,

I use a mix of brown and green poster paint and it looks quite effective if you get it far enough away from the horrible generic colours of poster paint.

exactly what i did, although if doing green for grass, be careful. i mixed mine in a shadowy area of the loft, i started painting it it and it came out bright green :shock:

Its worth doing as well, same as mixing some colour into plaster/filler before applying to the layout... At least you don't get white bits if it gets chipped! One of those simple tips that tend to get ignored... Well done, Monty, for raising it!
