What is the best way to stick down grass mat

Postby royeslough » Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:08 pm

Hi,

I have some tasma grass mat which I have been told to be careful in sticking down to avoid wrinkles.

It appears to have a paper backing, so I intended to use slightly watered PVA. This would give some time to adjust and smoothout.
(BTW IT is a flat baseboard)

Any better suggestions or is PVA the best way to go?

Thanks

wallpaper paste works quite well... paste the back and then WAIT a few mins to allow the paper to absorb the paste. This will help prevent wrinkles as the paper is already expanded.

Or you can use spray mount adhesive glue

The only stupid question is the one I didn't ask

Always good to experiment away from the main layout lol :)

Never tried that brand of grass matting but Wallpaper paste works well for noch and gaugemaster mats

this stuff costs a fortune if you're planning to cover a large area, for other uses, i use watered down pva in an empty spray :P

Heavy duty wall paper paste works OK but as stated in an earlier post let it sit and expand.
PVA and water is just as good, but I size the area i'm going to stick the mat on.

If you're sticking the mat to a flat surface, you might want to try double sided tape.

OK the results of my test.

The Wallpaper paste appeared to do a good job, but the following day I was able to peel it from the baseboard with ease. I believe the glue had been absorbed too easily into the baseboard. I guess this would be good if you wanted the ability to change your mind OR remove sections of grass for buildings/other scenic material.

However as I want it to remain firmly stuck down the PVA test was a far better bond. I cannot get the grass off again. This is probably as the PVA seals the baseboard.

SO for me PVA is the better.

PS I have used the carpet adhesive (surprisingly for sticking carpet) and it is an instant bond - giving no allowance to adjust the material, so with the grass matting there would have been creasing issues etc..
