Soldering Iron - The 'Best'.
Soldering Iron - The 'Best'.
I'm in the market for a good 'once in a lifelime' soldering iron for O gauge metal kit building (and general wiring etc). My current Weller temperature controlled one, a WHS40, is all fine and dandy but doesn't give a temperature readout so setting it for white metal is a bit hit and miss - it's also bit gutless when it comes to Wattage (particularly with brass). Does anyone have a particular recommendation - I *think* about 70W, and must have tip temperature display. Is an induction iron a good/bad/indifferent idea? Over to the panel...
Re: Soldering Iron - The 'Best'.
It really depends on your budget?
IMO Look for a digital read out one with around 60-65watt power or greater.
I have one of the below for probably eight or more years now and it just does what it says on the can/label/description

But if you have the ££ then Antex are considered to be the Industry Standard and this may be what you need? [url][https://www.antex.co.uk/products/solder ... /690d//url]
You will now get ten or more alternatives!

Broken? It was working correctly when I left it.

Thanks for that, I have to say I like the look of the Antex one - a good brand as you say. Not sure about 50W, I guess I would still have my blunderbuss (stained glass window lead iron) for those hard to melt moments.Flashbang wrote:It really depends on your budget?
