Excellent work there Matt. I couldn't find reference to what you actually use for your weathering. Is it brush or airbrush?
Also on your underframes, what coulors are you using? They look like what I'd like to achieve on my own wagons.
Thanks

Hi there E2E,

Underframe are first painted a mucky brown colour - more about that in a minute - by airbrush or brush. Over this I airbrush heavily diluted earth paint over the w-irons. I finish off with a dark brown oil wash around detail and into recessed areas. I should say I only use acrylic paint too other than the wash.

I mix my mucky brown each time. Although this is time consuming, and I could just buy a "frame dirt/brake dust/sleeper grime" paint from Railmatch, I prefer to do it myself.

Doing it separately gives each underframe a slightly different appearance. I can't stand RTR pre weathered stock, or stock done by some "pro-weatherers" who just line everything up and blast them all with the same shade.

For this reason I never batch paint any of my models, I do them all individually!

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Matt.
I don't own an airbrush but can definatly layer with a brush.

I've recently rebuilt this very old, and damaged/scruffy Cambrian Shark that I originally built many, many years ago. Despite being a little rough around the edges, it's scrubbed up quite well with a repaint.

I've also reworked this old Bachmann VAA, it's had a new paint job and some weathering to fade the colours.
