From a "Hunt" to a "Shire"
Re: Name that train!
Thanks manna - I found the long, thin nature of these next transfers rather more difficult than normal to manipulate (and they are waterslide rather than Methfix!)
This covers the application of Fox Transfer’s named train boards and transfers.
On to the actual application. I had toyed with the idea of applying the transfers to the boards before mounting them on the coaches, but found that too fiddly, and therefore proceeded to stick the boards on the coaches first.

Re: Name that train! (cont.)
I had not been very successful in locating photographs showing the positions of the boards on the coaches, and what I hadn’t appreciated until this stage is that the boards are not situated symmetrically midway along the coach side. In some coaches there are doors which would not be able to open if the board went across their tops! So to a large extent I have used best guesswork in their positioning.

The Restaurant car would have the nameboards on the roof.

Is that so passing seagulls know where the food is?

Belated thanks manna, and glencairn - only if they could read!
Re: Restaurant Car nameboard
Just to finish the job in the light of 21C1's help, I can't believe how I failed to notice the 3 lugs on the roof of the Restaurant Car and to which the nameboards were attached.
Well, they are now!

Re: A Coaling Tub for Hawick Coaling Stage
Hello Ex-Pat.Ex-Pat wrote:Ian Kirk kits came to the rescue for the wheels – each kit usually has some spare pieces or pieces that I do not use because I prefer to use metal screws instead.
I am mildly curious.
In the photo I first thought that the 4-hole drilled wheels were shirt-buttons (until I read your caption).
Did you think of shirt-buttons for wheels, or do you require tubs that roll?
Cheers

Thanks manna - I'll set up a shot - which A3 would you like?
Thanks Chris - I did think of shirt buttons - but the Ian Kirk components provided ready-made axles (static and glued in situ - 'can't have it falling off - probably I should put a safety plank across the coaling platform!).
Also they saved me having to search for the right size buttons.

Rats! I was hoping to exchange a gallon or two of them in exchange for a few miles (not to scale) of Peco track ...Ex-Pat wrote:Thanks Chris - I did think of shirt buttons - but ...

Not to fussed, I like all A3's, but a 'Canal Shed' would probably be more appropriate.

Re: From a "Hunt" to a "Shire"
Thanks manna - I found it remarkably difficult to take a decent photo of the complete rake - you wouldn't be able to make out the lettering on the headboards. A video of them passing would be best, but unfortunately I haven't got into videoing at all.
However, here are two shots - in fact relatively scarce ones as the day's rostered loco is that with the lowest overall mileage of all of the A3's - it's Canal's 60095 "Flamingo" with high-sided tender (and, even more correctly, the new style emblem that would have been around when "The Waverley" first started running).
(I haven't yet attached the named headboard to the loco as I've forgotten exactly where it is!)
