Dapol Pug Plastic Kit

Post by ModelMinutes »

Hi All!
Been a while since I last was here - not had much time to build any model trains recently :(

Anyways, this is my latest creation - Dapol Pug in OO Gauge (the old ex-airfix/kitmaster kit)

I made a video of the build and finished model - let me know what you think of the finished thing! Many thanks :D

Hi there,

I follow you on Youtube. Dapol/Airfix kits are on my 2018 to do list :) So I'll be using your videos as a tutorial.

If so inclined, hunt around for the 'Kimaster Rosebud' originals of these kits, or the later 'Airfix' incarnations, still available unmade. The plastic is much better then the soapy goo Dapol now use to mould from these old tools, to extend their life.

The real prize is the Stirling single, only available as a Kitmaster item, because when Airfix were buying the tools in a sort of Dutch auction, the vendor took a sledge hammer to the tool for this model to concentrate their minds a little. Some may be emerging into daylight now that a RTR model of the Stirling single is coming. It was easily one of the best kits in the range too...

Thats a shame about the Stirling Single - someone always ruins it . . Thanks to all those who checked out my video. I came across some older airfix versions some time ago, they were part built and in need of repair - you're right, the plastic did look much better!

By all accounts it was a chance decision that led to the Stirling single tool being the one damaged beyond repair in this way.

It wasn't the only model to suffer the same fate. There was the Krokodil, the Italian 0-6-T, and a whole load more. A case of new company owners knowing the cost of everything they had but he value of none of it.
