Hello everyone,
Has anyone ever built a layout like this one (just scroll down a little): "Shortover Yard — a Seriously Compact Layout!"
http://www.carendt.com/micro-layout-des ... ble-lines/
http://playingtrains.files.wordpress.co ... r-yard.jpg
The dimensions of my own version of this small (micro ?) layout could be: 60cm x 18cm
All your advices and comments are welcome. Thanks.

This is where the jagged edge between 'A Layout' and 'A Diorama' lays.
A layout needs to have enough movement to offer some running entertainment,
preferably with either a sector plate, or point to give more than just a simple
back & forth movement,
I'd be interested to see what you can squeeze into 2 feet x 7 inches, although this
is also dependent on scale, using 'T' you could truly get a layout !!
I love dioramas as they offer a place to develop scenic ideas and trying out new
to you materials. Test you lighting skills and take photographs. How small can you
go ? I have crazy idea of making a small scene in a larger Oxford Diecasts plastic
box, the one sitting here is about 5" x 3" (130mm x 75mm)

This has lighting and both the quayside and upper tracks can be live
But it's a Diorama ....... by my standards.

Although you can get plenty of action with just the traverser and the tracks, it always seems to me to be that bit more interesting if there's a turnout or crossover somewhere in the visible bit.

I totally agree with that.

I drawn a new track plan. The baseboard is a little bit longer (80cm) than the first project.
