First Layout

Postby andymac7 » Tue Mar 26, 2019 1:34 pm

Hi all,

Following a visit to model rail Scotland this year my son and I are in the middle of planning our first ever layout.

We’re lucky enough to have a good size double garage joined to the house that only stores garden equipment for 95% of the year and it’ll be the home for our layout.

So far I’ve built four 4ft x 2ft boards and we’re now looking at what to put on them. We’d like to run passenger and freight services with a TMD and plenty of sidings in the mix. I’m tilting towards realism and my wee one towards the play aspects.

Given that we're complete novices at this I wondered if anyone had any feedback on the attached track plan?

The plan is for the scenic sections and we do have room to make a continuous running layout with a back straight.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

Looks good. :)
Without any measurments on the plan, the only suggestion I can give is to make the top tracks straighter. This will give you longer platforms.
Sorry about the rubbish picture but hopefully it explains my suggestion better.

I've drawn it (badly) as a Y point but it can be a simple right hand point dropping one of the tracks down to platform 2.
This would give space to make the platforms all the same length with capacity for longer trains.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback end2end and I like that idea with the platforms.

Overall it’s 14ft wide and 2ft deep apart from the L section on the left hand side which is 4ft deep.

Thanks
Andy

I think you've just made three quarters of the forum envious.
And, my pleasure. ;)
