Thanks b308.

I have looked at Chris Ward's body kits more than a few times and skimmed Shapeways. And yes I think the Kato chassis probably the best option by quite a long way. Perhaps a step at a time the only way to decide... so I'm considering a "plan" that could be 009 or 09. If I buy just a Kato chassis and a few quids worth of track I can assess running etc. Based on the lovely Avalon track plan, this could I think be either scale (here with 0 scenics):

If you finish the Chris Ward locos off well then you certainly won't lose money on them!

We have Narrow Gauge Midlands exhibition in August at Water Orton (a short train ride from Nottingham), it should have both Chris and the 009 Society's secondhand stall attending!! ;)

And another plan comes to a juddering halt. Bought some N setrack and a Kato 103 chassis. Also tested my nearly unused but c.25 years old Farish 5 pole Prairie. Not impressed - altho' surprisingly the Farish ran slightly better, especially thro' the dead frog points, than did the Kato.

Neither performed sufficiently well for me to pursue anything using N chassis/track. (I accept that electrofrogs probably give a better result, but setrack would better meet my space constraints.)

So, it'll have to be yet another shelf or retirement. Undecided as yet....

Thanks for advice and forbearance!

The Roco loco is very nice and who cares Hoe is very similar to OO9 and here the new Peco stock couples quite nicely to the Roco loco, the only thing a slight rise tends to uncouple wagons etc. I have some Kato N gauge bridges which look well with this set up but the track really has to be flat, I made up a small layout after this photo as I was working abroad with the idea of having a cameo in Towcaster my home layout - plans sometimes take a while.

Thanks. The Roco does look fine with the Peco wagons.

What about the Bachmann Plymouth MDT 0 6 0? Plenty of O9 layouts use this robust and smooth running chassis. 29 odd quid.
