British Rail or Big four

Post by BigBadJohn4U »

All these privatised railway firms are hitting financial problems, isn't it time to go back to 1923 with the Big Four or 1948 with British Railways, let's have BR green and blue diesels back! - but with electric collector shoes and/or pantographs fitted to go electric.

Just take the diesel engine out of diesel classes and replace with an electric generator that runs on 25kv AC or 750v DC.

Bring back Class 31s, 37s, 40s, Peaks, etc. running on the juice.

It's been done, the Swiss did it in the early 1900s!

The fall in passenger volumes was bound to have a knock on effect, especially when the recent huge investments in capacity expansion, Thameslink, Crossrail and HS2 leading the charge, are considered. Time to scrap HS2, presto! money can be saved there...
