Vic Berry's S/yard- class 25 & 27 stack - how many & format?

Postby 0121modeller » Sun Jul 13, 2014 9:20 pm

As part of my scrapyard project, I wish to replicate the famous stack of 25/27 loco bodies at the former scrapyard at Vic Berry's.

I know the stack had approximately 36 in total , but can anyone tell me how many were class 25 & how many were 27's ?
I have a couple of photo's, but to me, the cab fronts look very similar & I think have variant modifications to confuse, as I'm fairly hopeless at recognition distinguishing the 2 classes.

Any help or knowledge given appreciated :)

When I visited on 17th July 1988 the stack was well depleted - only 10 left in the pyramid - 5 at ground level (1 25, 4 27's) - 3 above (2 25's, 1 27) and 2 on top (1 of each). Lying parallel and adjacent to the pyramid were 3 more 27's - loads of 25 cabs elsewhere (including 5 on a trailer).

I used to walk past the scrapyard every day on my way to lectures. Happy times...

Given that sishades is of a Leicester persuasion, would this be the scrapyard at the end of Gaul/Briton/Saxon/Roman Streets off Narborough Road in Leicester?

Spent many school holidays round there in the 80s and 90s looking with awe at the heaps of old carriages. Wasn't there a fairly major fire there at some point?

Ah, so it was...

There's at least 40 in the stack shown in the Wiki link.

Thanks chaps :) , I've been searching photo's on google images etc & yes, the amount varies somewhat, I'll need to study photo's more as to replicate some sort of order of stacking, for instance; I've a couple of photo's showing class 27's tier'd at one end, so will replicate that & other features as much as possible.

I've purchased a few bodyshells over the past few weeks & reckon I'll have enough now to re-create a fair representation (after various modifications & re-spraying)
