Class 60
Anybody know if any of theese fine machines are still in service? or have they all been withdrawn?I hope at least one of theese makes it into preservation.Surely our most powerful freight loco and a lot more chrachter than a 66. I rember going to Loughborough due to work and popped into the works where they were brand new and fresh out the paint shop in railfreight grey.Make a good noise just a pity about the silencer.Think the last one i saw was a few years back 048 at Preston hauling bogie tankers if memory serves.

Re: Class 60
I saw one working at Peak Forest about two or three weeks ago.

She's having her train filled up with stone in that picture. Other than that though, the place was crawling with 66s. 2 on a train and a third making its train up.
It will be a shame to see these locos go, especially since they are more powerful than the Class 66 and they look better and are British! Only 20 years old, still a spring lamb really...
There is a preservation group set up with the intention of saving one, that's good.

Thats very sad only 7 left out of 100 and they are only around 20 years old, another waste of a good engine

Re: Class 60
The footage of 74 was indeed hellfire they do make a lovely noise, even with the silencer and plenty of clagg to boot
I do hope at least one ends up in preservation as they have so much more charachcter then the faceless 66's.

Re: Class 60
7 in service and the rest in storage....seems a bit of a waste
If I'm right there is already a class 60 preservation group...
I expect it won't belong before some are put up for sale...

Re: Class 60
EWS/DBS have a policy of not putting anything out to tender that could be used by a rival company - expect any 60s that are up for sale anytime soon to be heavily stripped/robbed wrecks.
Re: Class 60
I saw 60011 on tankers through York week before last. Anyone seen the lineup of 60's at Toton? over half the fleet there.

Re: Class 60
Not on your fleet list (looks like the same one from TugTracker which appears to have at least a further eight missing from it)
