Class 50 (Only)

Postby 50035 Ark Royal » Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:11 am

Hi to stop all the moaners on here i thought i would create a class 50 only thread so if you are not interested PLEASE DO NOT READ OR POST
To get the ball rolling i have decided to post Memories of Barham
Although did not rate not one of my mega faves Barham was one of Laira's old sloggers.
I never had the loco unmodified. She was my 43rd vac for haulage.
First run was on 14/01/84 Brum-Coventry 1V15
Memorable was
30/03/85 Reading -Brum 1M23 (DH with a black roofed Triumph) via worcester SH
Did not clear for 1k until
16/02/88 Birm-Padd 1V69
Best runs were
09/07/88 Plymouth -Birm 1M823
11/07/88 Birm-Paignton 1V53
2K was
30/10/89 Wat -Exeter still in Large logo with a black roof.
16 wasrepainted in RNSE dark end of Jan 90
First run in RNSE was
06/03/90 Waterloo-Yeovil 1VO1(The 01.40)
3k was
10/06/90
Pgtn-Wat 1037
Final run
11/06/90 Wat-Yeovil 1V22
On 19/06/90 Barham was declared a failure after working 05.57 Salis -Ex (Main Generator Flashover)
Repairs were not forthcoming and on 03/08/90 it was withdrawn (17th) hours 8592
I had 34 runs and 3497.12 miles so one of my lower mileage engines.
It was finaly cut up at CF Booth Rotherham 06/92 R.I.P
To sum up wished now id done more behind her but hindsight a good thing.Defintely not one of the celebrity engines but a decent vac.

Growing old is compulsary, growing up is optional!

ALL CLASS 50`S SHOULD BE CUT UP INTO SMALL PIECES AND USED FOR SOMETHING MORE USEFUL LIKE A PAPER-WEIGHT

Cool, if you are going to segregate, then i trust your constant rambling off, on other peoples topics onto the subject of Class 50's will cease, and you will confine your obsession with the class of locomotive to this and other threads about Class 50s or Vacs.

Here are some class 50's from a photo taken by a chap called Mr B.S.Dean, I also like the class of diesel, but your enthusiasm borders on insanity! ...anyway, just to appease you and show that there are no hard feelings, here is a lovely pic of some hoovers.

The best performance I ever saw from a Fifty Fifty was in Vic Berrys yard.

Something that should have happened years sooner. The cutters torch, TRUE hellfire, not some naff smoke from a failing engine.

Its on topic!

To Chris yes that is the plan the pic you posted of Bulwark and Exeter on freight are hellfire.
To Zunnan Vacs dieing is on topic and i have some pics in my collection. That is the end of 50012 Benbow is it not? Not one of my faves never had a good run of it.It's performance about on a par with a duff but better noise and more smoke though. r.i.p

It was indeed number 12, here's another classmate that did well on a trip to Leicester. And here's a video of one which was so unsafe to move that it ended up having to be dismantled on site. Good riddance Monarch.
